My partner and I loved staying at the Villa della Fonte while in Rome and look forward to going back again. At first we were afraid that staying Trastavere would be out of the way from everything we wanted to see, but it is really walking distance to almost everything. And it was great to walk back over the Tiber...

Although it can be somewhat difficult to locate, this hotel is well worth the search ... the rooms are immaculate and unique and cozy ... the staff is very helpful and friendly ... they were kind enough to send me a souvenir book that I left behind, which I greatly appreciated ... the Villa della Fonte is right in the...

Great stay for 4 nights in June, 2010. Top location. Very nice rooftop breakfast. helpful, friendly staff. a few stairs may deter some. nighttime in Trestavere is magical, and you are 20 steps off the main square.

This really should be rated higher. I really liked this place; clean, nice neighborhood, beamed ceilings, my own bathroom. Breakfast was decent and the staff was wonderful. The only thing that would have made it perfect would have been free internet access. Don't know why everyone doesn't offer that.

I stayed for 6 nights in Villa dell Fonte in May 2010, and I can recommend the place, for single travellers, couples and a small group of friends. It's a small ( 5 rooms) hotel located in Trastevere, a lively and less expensive) neighbourhood of Rome (think plenty of ristorantes, pizzerias and Bars). The hotel is located very close to...

Stayed for six nights with my wife and adult daughter. The villa is yards from the Piazza Santa Maria and surrounded by the widest variety of eating places and bars, but very quiet. The staff are particularly helpful making phone calls to obtain taxis at a moment's notice. Breakfast on the terrace (until it rained!) was an unexpected bonus especially...

My wife and I enjoyed the Villa Della Fonte for four nights in mid-March. Our room (No. 5) was spacious, clean and very comfortable. The Villa is off a small square in Trastevere, close to the historical area (walking distance) but not surrounded by tourists. The rooms were very clean and the staff was very helpful with directions and recommendations....

Five fully modern rooms, with WiFi, in a 17th century building just 50m up the lane from the Piazza de Santa Maria in Trastevere. The price (at least in the off-season) was fine, the staff were extraordinarily helpful and extremely friendly. It's impossible to recommend this too strongly, the location in Trastevere an easy walk across the Tiber bridges or...

Great location in Trastevere with lovely and friendly owners/staff. We stayed for one week in a pretty decorated room which was spotlessly clean. The lovely breakfast has been served on the terrace with a nice view of the piazza.

Tucked away in a side street in Trastevere this is a gem of a hotel.Good sized room with en-suite shower room which was serviced every day to a high standard. Beds very comfortable too. The weather was warm enough to have breakfast (the most wonderful bread rolls!)on the delightful terrace which looked down towards the Plazza. We were greeted by...

Staying in Trastevere

Neighbourhood Profile
Trastevere
Trastevere ("beyond the Tiber") is like a faded postcard, a little worn around the edges but still charming. With its wide-open piazzas, meandering streets, weathered Renaissance buildings, and overgrown personality, it's become an irresistible mecca for visitors. Trastevere is an enclave of entertainment - a rotating set of street performers entertains almost every night, and unforgettable eateries and bars pepper its piazzas and side streets. For a trip to the past, visit the southern and western flanks of Trastevere for pockets of yesteryear, less traversed areas with a residual 1960s and 70s Roman vibe.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Villa della Fonte awaits for you in a typical eighteenth century palace, with a fabulous terrace and its breathtaking view and with all the best services you can wish for. Johann Wolfgang Goethe once said: For only in Rome can one prepare oneself for Rome: and he was right. Even better if done at Trastevere – we dare to add – the most authentic neighborhood of this city. With its wonderful squares and typical alleys, it has always been the true beating heart of the city and not only because of its central location. From craft shops to charming squares and fountains, masterpieces of the finest art, till you reach the typical Roman “Trattorie”. Surrounded by all this is Via della Fonte d’Olio, typical alley in Trastevere not far from the fascinating Piazza Santa Maria in Trastevere. Within all the Hotels and the Guest Houses of Rome, Villa della Fonte has an enchanting and privileged location. In the heart of Trastevere it’s only a two minute walk from Trams and Buses that will easily take you to the most beautiful and famous places of our city: Colosseo, Fori Imperiali, Piazza di Spagna, Piazza Navona, Via Veneto, Fontana di Trevi and many others. All places are within reach even on foot. Staying at Villa della Fonte is no doubt the best oportunity to explore this magical and historical roman world. ... more   less
