The hotel is in a reasonable location. It is away from the main sites however fairly easy to access using public transport or a bearable walk. It took us 20min at a fairly quick pace to get back from the Trevi fountain. Allow 30mins to stoll it! Buses stopped very close to the hotel so made access very easy. Our... More

What we really enjoyed: - Mr Franco Spaccialbelli at the reception desk! What a great guy, totally service-minded. - The beautifully decorated room. Very cosy. - The proximity to Termini station. - The excellent restaurants in the neighbourhood. Especially Mama Angela's and the Steakhouse around the corner. What we didn't enjoy: - The breakfast that was more like a cake... More

On the first night we got lost trying to find it, once we got our bearings, it was a very easy walk to the Termini. On one corner there are embassies and Armed Guards with automatic weapons all night, so walking home we felt very safe. The room was decent and heated perfectly, the mattress was a bit hard but... This hotel I recommend to everyone staying in Rome for a couple of days. The staff is friendly, the hotel modern, clean en quiet. The breakfast was more than sufficient with enough choice and good service. The beds were good. We had a superior twin room, with jacuzzi bath, high speed internet and lcd tv. The dvd mentioned on the... More

We arrived at the hotel mid morning and was pleasantly suprised, it was located in a nice area (near Embassies) and not in any way run down. The walk from Termini station took us just over 5 mins, the pavement did not cause us any problems whatsoever and was easy to find following the directions from the hotel website. I... More

We stayed at the Hotel Monte Carlo for four nights in October, 2008. We highly recommend this hotel and will definitely stay there again. This was our second visit to Rome, so we have another hotel to compare with—but there is no comparison at all. The hotel location is excellent: just about 8 blocks or ten minutes walk from Rome... We booked two standard double rooms directly with the hotel via their website for five nights from Aug. 29 to Sept. 3, 2008. The hotel more than met our expectations - bedrooms and bathrooms were a good size, spotlessly clean, nicely furnished, clean white towels daily and complimentary toiletries. Breakfast was more than adequate and plentiful - enough to see... More

I took my girlfriend to Rome for 3 nights for her birthday last December staying at the Montcarlo hotel. Arriving 10 hours late due to an airport strike that day, the friendly reception staff made us feel very welcome. First impressions of the hotel was quaint and well decorated with some authentic features (the old cast iron lift). The room... More

Stayed at the Montecarlo in August, booked early (March) in hope that I would get a good room. I got a room that was adequate, The window opened into an alleyway, no kettle in the room either, and only 2 English satellite TV Channels (CNN and Eurosport). Shower was a small cubicle, have to be slim! But the location was... More

I was a little apprehensive about the location of this hotel as I had read that the area around Rome's Termini could be a little seedy. Having just returned from our family trip to Rome we found the area felt very safe and had no problems whatsoever. We chose this hotel as it was fairly central and also could accomodate... More

Staying in Esquilino

Neighbourhood Profile
Esquilino
Old school vibe from the very beginning is the only way to describe the Esquilino neighbourhood. The Esquilino takes pride in being one of the oldest areas in Rome for its key location on one of the city’s famous seven hills. From an ancient neighbourhood to its modern incarnation as a multicultural hub, Esquilino always has something going on—polyglot vendors debate street artists while kids play pick-up basketball games. Look around you: this area isn’t like the historic centre. Liberty architecture, large piazzas, and long boulevards mix with archaic arches, secret side alleys, and beautiful churches like Santa Maria Maggiore.
