Located in the bustling Trastevere section of Rome, the Santa Maria is a secluded hotel down a quiet driveway. The picturesque neighborhood is teeming with restaurants and night life all within easy walking distance to the hotel. Although there is no nearby metro stop, we walked to everything we wished to see and do. The hotel is clean and the...

Great location, very clean, friendly staff, and nice breakfast included. Beautiful garden courtyard filled with orange trees. We stayed on the second level (Room 15). We enjoyed sitting on the upper outside patio every morning and evening. Free bicycles available for use, locks included. Very nice and a great value.

Hotel Santa Maria is ideal for a relaxing, peaceful stay. The rooms are all on the ground floor and set around a couple of courtyards full of orange trees. It's a beautiful setting and quiet, although you can often hear local musicians playing in the nearby square which is actually a bonus. We stayed in a family suite which was...

In the heart of Trastevere, the Hotel Santa Maria provides a peaceful retreat from the hustle and bustle of a few hectic days in Rome. It is less than a couple of minutes' walk to excellent restaurants, bars and shops within Trastevere itself but a longer walk is required to get to the main sights of Rome. The hotel itself...

The hotel was entirely sufficient and the staff responsive to our every request. We stopped by a couple days early and asked that our daughter be able to check in as we would be arriving late, not a problem, the staff was very helpful to her as well. Our request to have a taxi at 6 AM, was spot on,...

My third stay in Hotel Santa Maria, this time with a grown up daughter, proved that this small gem of a hotel has kept up the hard work and take pride in their quality. Unbeatable location close to the beautiful Santa Maria square and church. You can walk everywhere, or, if not so keen on walking tram 8 takes you...

Staying in Trastevere

Neighbourhood Profile
Trastevere ("beyond the Tiber") is like a faded postcard, a little worn around the edges but still charming. With its wide-open piazzas, meandering streets, weathered Renaissance buildings, and overgrown personality, it's become an irresistible mecca for visitors. Trastevere is an enclave of entertainment - a rotating set of street performers entertains almost every night, and unforgettable eateries and bars pepper its piazzas and side streets. For a trip to the past, visit the southern and western flanks of Trastevere for pockets of yesteryear, less traversed areas with a residual 1960s and 70s Roman vibe.
