The Hotel Santa Maria is an Hotel de Charme located in a 16th century cloister completely renovated in the year 2000 maintaining the flavour of the original construction. It makes a very pleasant base in a romantic and relaxing ambience. STAY. HERE. I promise you it’s worth every cent (and is so fairly priced as is!). The staff went above and beyond to make my stay comfortable, even upgrading me for free to my surprise upon arrival which was so sweet. Every morning the breakfast was ON POINT, scrambled eggs, meat and cheeses, pastries, juices, breads, vegetables, literally perfection and the staff served my espresso exactly how I liked it directly to my table in the orange garden. Everyone spoke English well. The hotel is gated and you check your key at the front desk before you leave each day and pick it up upon return at the 24 hour front desk (was grateful for that, I felt so very safe). The rooms were very lovely, nothing crazy but for a hotel in the heart of Trastevere (the best area of Rome in my opinion) you cannot go wrong here.

I’ve stayed at many hotels in many states, countries, and settings and few have actually warranted 5 stars. And not just everything is pretty good five stars, but everything is exceptional 5 stars. Stayed here last week on a weeklong trip to rome and was nothing but impressed. They were quick to help every time we emailed them before our stay with questions. We scheduled airport pick up and drop off through them easily and the driver was very nice and cordial and even told us about rome on our drive. We arrived in the morning a few hours before check in and had planned on just leaving our bags behind the counter, but our room was actually ready so they let us move in early. The property is nothing short of gorgeous. I loved the trastevere neighborhood and there was only one way into the hotel which was gated. It was nice to have that even though the neighborhood is very safe. When you wanted to get into the hotel, you would press a buzzer and they would look at the camera and let you in. They have staff there 24 hours a day which was great. The hotel is centered around two courtyards full of orange trees. Vines on the wall, small water fountains, bikes you can take out for free. Very picturistic. The bigger courtyard is where people sit at breakfast (which is included btw). The buffet breakfast was excellent, had a little bit of everything, very fresh, and they made the cutest cappuccino art. There is another smaller courtyard on a diagonal which is where our room was located. Up a staircase is the rooftop deck area, where there is some lounge chairs for sunning and some couches to sit. I loved to sit there at night under the stars. The rooms are on the smaller side, but good enough for the amount of people supposed to be in them. Everything was very clean when we got there and the cleaning lady came every day to make our bed and such. I was actually surprised at how modern the bathroom was, I expected it to be a bit outdated. I also didn’t expect the air conditioning to work that well but man it felt great after being in 100 degrees all day. There was some cute details like the orange knob on drawers for the theme of the hotel. They real way they set themself apart was their employees. Chiara was there most of our stay and she was incredibly helpful. We got dinner recommendation from whoever was working the evening shift each night and they even made reservations for us. Every place we went to was amazing. We asked them for the nearest supermarket, and even a close by clothing store when I realized I didn’t have Vatican appropriate clothes and needed something quick. We actually we originally switching hotels because when we originally booked, we could only get 2 nights. We saw someone had cancelled and they were able to not only quickly book us so we could stay the whole length of our visit, but also called the other hotel we were supposed to stay at and got us out of that. The other thing was we were trying to visit the colosseum and didn’t realize all the underground tours were sold out for months. It was something we had really wanted to do, so we asked them about it. They emailed a tour company with our availability and were able to set us up with a whole tour of palatine hill, the Roman forum, and the colosseum and underground. The tour guide we had was actually amazing too. There was a slight hiccup when the tour lady at the colosseum couldn’t find our reservation, but we called the hotel and they called the tour company office and got it fixed very quickly. Thank you so much to all the staff at hotel Santa Maria - we hope to be back soon.

If you like going out to restaurants and bars in Rome, this hotel is the best place for you. Conveniently located nearby the Piazza di Santa Maria in Trastevere, you will have access to many great restaurants, obviously many of them are tourist traps, but there are some hidden gems nearby or at least in walking distance. Hotel staff was friendly too and very welcoming.

After more than a year delay my wife and I finally were able to return to Rome. We decided to stay at Hotel Santa Maria once again. The hotel and staff were once again exceptional. Our room was very clean and comfortable. They serve a very nice breakfast. We love the location as is set right in the heart of Trastevere. On one the the staff went above and beyond. My wife and I scheduled a cab to pic us up or a ride to the train station. Cabs in the is area do not like to come into Trastevere, which we found out the hard way as they never showed. The hotel has a local car service they use and they offered us his service instead of the cab when they didn't show. They were able to get us to the train station on-time.

Hotel Santa Maria is flawless , our family plans to stay here every time we visit Rome. The hotel is gorgeous - the courtyard is stunning and our room was spacious and very clean. Eating the delicious hotel breakfast in the courtyard was the perfect start to a day exploring Rome! Also, the location in Trastevere is perfect. The staff was very friendly and accommodating, always treating us like family and going above and beyond to make sure we were having a good stay. I highly recommend this hotel!
