From the start, Ivan and Rana were very helpful at the Sonya Hotel in Rome. Whether it be more ice, help on the computer, suggestions for dinner, or directions to a particular monument or site, these two men were "right on." In the morning I enjoyed home-made pastries and a delicious cup of cappuccino, always delivered with a smile. You...

This is a very convenient location by the train station. You can actually do a easy 30 minute stroll to the Trevi Fountain and other great sites. A bus 1 block away will take you near all the major sites. The room was a very nice size, very clean and freshly painted. The hotel attendant helped with the luggage and...

We stayed in room 336 just a few days ago. The room has been redone, not large, but serviceable. The bathroom is small and the sealant is non existant at the base of the shower so that water leaks out during the shower and soaks the bathmat. A faint smell of sewage greets you when you enter the room. We...

My wife and I have been traveling all over Europe for the past 3 weeks and we have stayed in some really nice paces. All based on trip advisor ratings, and we have always come out delighted. Hotel Sonya was the only exception. A lot of the reviews below are by people who got to stay in the new 5th...

My adult son and I (Mom) traveled to Rome in early May of this year. I had booked two double rooms (single occupany each) for four nights in January 2011. From my first correspondence in January to our arrival in early May I could not have received any better service with prompt answers to my many questions via e-mail. Simone...

We booked our stay at this hotel because of it's proximity to the Termini Train station and recommendation in Rick Steves guidebook. Also, when we looked at the Tripadvisor rating was fairly good. We were not disappointed. It's a small family run hotel of 3 star quality. The rooms are nice, nothing luxurious, but with a pleasant appointments, free inroom...

We booked a room at the Hotel Sonya for four nights in April of 2011. Upon our arrival, we were told that a room was available in the hotel's recently renovated annex. A staff member promptly escorted us to the annex, located half a block to the north on Via Firenze. Bear in mind that comments in this review concerning...

The rooms were very modern and clean, but extremely small. You won't spend much time in the room anyway. It's located close to the train station and easy walking distance to many sites and the Metro. Breakfast was good and served early if you need it. The staff was friendly. They offered us a laptop in the room, very easy!

Hotel staff were very cordial, breakfast was outstanding and the hotel is near the train station so you can walk to and fro. Rooms are a great value based on other places we have stayed.

Staying in Esquilino

Neighbourhood Profile
Esquilino
Old school vibe from the very beginning is the only way to describe the Esquilino neighbourhood. The Esquilino takes pride in being one of the oldest areas in Rome for its key location on one of the city’s famous seven hills. From an ancient neighbourhood to its modern incarnation as a multicultural hub, Esquilino always has something going on—polyglot vendors debate street artists while kids play pick-up basketball games. Look around you: this area isn’t like the historic centre. Liberty architecture, large piazzas, and long boulevards mix with archaic arches, secret side alleys, and beautiful churches like Santa Maria Maggiore.
