We traveled to Rome via a travel agency, upon arrival at the hotel that was booked for us, we were disgusted so we went on a hotel hunt and found Astoria Garden. We walked in told the gentleman we needed 3 clean, updated rooms that we wouldn't be afraid to sleep in. He welcomed us shoes us 3 rooms, and...

We had a 3 night break at The Astoria Garden. We chose it based on price and location which is a short walk from the station. From the moment we walked in to until the time we left, we were made to feel very welcome. It is a traditional hotel, very comfortable and clean with a great enclosed garden which...

My partner booked a surprise 10 Year Anniversary trip to Rome for my Christmas present 2016. Our Anniversary was 4th March 2017, and this charming 19th Century Hotel is right at the heart of the City of Rome, and well within walking distance to all major transport, buses, metro, trains, and taxis, and most of the major tourist attractions, and...

Stayed here for 3 nights too many. If you're claustrophobic, forget the 9x10 rooms with an extremely hard mattress - think trampoline! Friends in another room felt the same way. The pluses - close to train station, garden okay, breakfast okay, staff friendly. Did I say the mattress is hard? My back still hurts thinking about it. Never again!! Move...

Excellent little hotel. Only a 5 minute stroll from the main station, with metro and bus access and a non stop 30 minute train to the airport. The hotel and room was very clean and comfortable. We stayed in one of the garden rooms which opened onto the lovely little garden area. The best thing about the hotel was the...

We were welcomed on arrival and checked in quickly to a clean room with everything needed for our stay. The staff are all friendly and welcoming and make you feel at home. The hotel is clean and has beautiful Roman interior. The garden is lovely and has seating to enjoy some fresh air under the orange trees. Breakfast offers a...

Booked this hotel for a week long stay for the Italy v Wales 6 Nations rugby game & having been to Rome a few times we know not to expect huge rooms & was a bit apprehensive in all honesty after reading some recent reviews on TripAdvisor. Well I can honestly say & I couldn't find any faults, we had...

This hotel was perfect for my week stay in Rome. It is a great price and only a 15 minute walk to the subway. There are many great restaurants around this hotel. The staff are very friendly and were able to answer all of my questions. This hotel has a very beautiful outside seating area to relax. They also have...

It's a short walk from the Termini rail station and Metro. The room was small, but clean and up-to-date. The staff upgraded us to a room overlooking the lovely garden, and they were happy to help us get tickets for the Vatican. The breakfast is generous. The restaurant pickings nearby aren't the greatest. But overall, this hotel worked out great...

Staying in Esquilino

Neighbourhood Profile
Esquilino
Old school vibe from the very beginning is the only way to describe the Esquilino neighbourhood. The Esquilino takes pride in being one of the oldest areas in Rome for its key location on one of the city’s famous seven hills. From an ancient neighbourhood to its modern incarnation as a multicultural hub, Esquilino always has something going on—polyglot vendors debate street artists while kids play pick-up basketball games. Look around you: this area isn’t like the historic centre. Liberty architecture, large piazzas, and long boulevards mix with archaic arches, secret side alleys, and beautiful churches like Santa Maria Maggiore.
