Wonderful and exclusive hotel in the heart of Rome. Very nice location near to the Vatican, close to all turistic highlights but in a quiet area. Incredible staff, exquisite service, beautiful and very comfortable room, delicious breakfast. We will repeat for sure!

My nine night stay at the Gran Melia Rome was remarkable mainly due to the attentive and great attitude of the staff. They always greet you and check on you and seem to generally really care about making their guests feel special. I was even offered a free glass of a delicious dry prosecco at the lounge right after check...

Everything was perfect with our stay from the moment we arrived to our departure. The welcome was warm, the manager José greeted us and offered a complementary upgrade, and our room was stunning. The hotel could not be more conveniently located, very close to the Vatican and within walking distance to man attractions. Breakfast was a delight, and the personalized...

I stayed at the Gran Melia between Christmas and New Years, visiting with a friend. While I expected a luxury five-star modern resort on the edge of Rome, it didn't quite live up to what I had envisaged. The hotel felt new and fresh, with a modern interior and public spaces, though it is designed to look like an older...

We stayed in the Gran Melia in December for 4 nights for our mini moon. As soon as we arrived we were greeted warmly by reception staff, they were so accommodating asking us about our journey and wedding. At check in we were upgraded and told that our room was ready, before going to our room we were asked if...

We come to Rome quite often and had the chance to stay here, so we thought we would try out being in a different part of town at what sounded like a nice new place. Let me start by saying that we are definitely not the target audience for this place, but for us, it didn’t work. Maybe if you...

Wonderful hotel, a quiet oasis offering resort facilities (we didn't use the pool or gardens but I could see how they would be fabulous in the summer) but still only 15 walk from Piazza Navonna and only steps away from the river and Vatican. We ate in Trastavere area which was lovely and close enough to stroll to and from....

Staying in Trastevere

Neighbourhood Profile
Trastevere
Trastevere ("beyond the Tiber") is like a faded postcard, a little worn around the edges but still charming. With its wide-open piazzas, meandering streets, weathered Renaissance buildings, and overgrown personality, it's become an irresistible mecca for visitors. Trastevere is an enclave of entertainment - a rotating set of street performers entertains almost every night, and unforgettable eateries and bars pepper its piazzas and side streets. For a trip to the past, visit the southern and western flanks of Trastevere for pockets of yesteryear, less traversed areas with a residual 1960s and 70s Roman vibe.
