Was a bit skeptical of this hotel as the reviews were not great, however it didnt turn out to be as bad as we expected! The receptionist was very friendly and helpful when we arrived. The room was ok, clean bed sheets and fresh towels each day, its old and could do with some renovations but given the price for...

Room was tidy, facilities good, reception friendly & location near train station ( 5 mins walk) & within a restaurant area was very useful. Make sure you have breakfast early or late to avoid the school parties. Due to poor public transport, walk to Coluseum was about 25 mins & Vatican maybe a leasurely 45-60mins. Anyway walking is how to...

NOT a nice hotel. The worst we've had in Europe and unfortunately the longest time we're staying out of a number of hotels. Reception is unorganized, holding everyone up to check in at once, about 7 groups told to sit down and wait to check in even though it was past time the normal check in time, fairly rude service,...

Nice stay and cheap comparing to Rome's accommodation. Decent rooms with no special view or attribute. Good cleaning bit no extra service. The old receptionist made a bad comment about Greeks and economy, not a professional one. The place is near to the center because Rome is a small city but the area very poor and reminds a ghetto. Nothing...

Clean and with friendly staff and very close to station and sites but most uncomfortable beds ever. Tv in room had no reception at all and wifi not good so kids had hard time connecting to tell friends back home about their adventures

Stayed at the end of February (second time). Fantastic spot for exploring Rome. In general, the hotel is clean, rooms are freshened every day, clean towels etc. It is not a five-star hotel, nor do they claim to be & regarding the ‘guy’ at reception ‘Mr Spartico’ if you take the time to acknowledge him you will find a gentleman...

Arrived on Thursday to be meeted by a receptionist that makes basil fawlty look good. Rome dark and mouldy. No mini bar in room. TV didn't work. Breakfast was like feeding time at the zoo. Only made the mistake of going down once!! No hot water as of the second day, no apology, no explanation. Just cold showers!! The only...

When we arrived at the hotel, we walked through the doors and there was scaffolding all around the door, it was clear that it was undergoing a refurbishment (which was much needed). Turned into the lobby area and it had beautifully been decorated with a minimalist twist on it. Great! Then walked into the room, and it looked like a...

This hotel has excellent location near Railway station "Termini" but everything else was very bad. My boyfriend and me found this hotel on website Booking.com. He made reservation and room on internet was nice. But when we came there they gave us room with two separated beds (we wanted matrimonial bed), beside that was very old, dirty. Walls in bathroom...

Location is ok, good as it's close to the train station but it's a good 30 minute walk from the historical centre. The lobby has been renovated and the bar as well so you get your hopes up when you walk through the door. They are dashed slightly when you get to your room to see how dated they are....

Staying in Esquilino

Neighbourhood Profile
Esquilino
Old school vibe from the very beginning is the only way to describe the Esquilino neighbourhood. The Esquilino takes pride in being one of the oldest areas in Rome for its key location on one of the city’s famous seven hills. From an ancient neighbourhood to its modern incarnation as a multicultural hub, Esquilino always has something going on—polyglot vendors debate street artists while kids play pick-up basketball games. Look around you: this area isn’t like the historic centre. Liberty architecture, large piazzas, and long boulevards mix with archaic arches, secret side alleys, and beautiful churches like Santa Maria Maggiore.
