This is a marvelous hotel! The room was lovely and large. The staff was efficient and friendly. The concierge service was terrific, giving us lots of information, making reservations and generally advising us.
Terrible Check in, waiting for staff more than 3 minutes, empty reception, when arrives staff, just ask how many nights I have, no explanation where is breakfast, didn’t ask me if I needed help with luggage. So first night was ok, but next morning I could not shave, because my socket was broken, and then after two hours I have a leak from the rooftop. When I arrived in new room, balcony was disaster condition, phone was unconnected, good location, terrible condition.
Yes it’s old fashioned but it’s still lovely. Rooms are enormous and everything worked in our 2 grand deluxe rooms. The bathtub was terrific and showers are fine in their old marble enclosures. We had outstanding recommendations from concierge Paolo for dinner. He is excellent- don’t bother trying to suss out places to eat on your own. He booked us 2 dinners and a lunch place and they were terrific. All staff were good. Breakfast is v nice. We would stay again.
We stayed 4 nights. We are Marriott Titanium Elite members. We were upgraded to a top floor 2 room suite with balcony. The hotel is ideally located on Via Veneto next to the U S embassy. It’s a short walk to Villa Borghese. Rooms were excellently appointed, well maintained and immaculate. All services were excellent. Breakfast buffet was very good. Restaurant was very good and reasonably priced. This was our first time in a Westin and highly recommend this hotel.
Beautiful hotel! Service is impeccable. Best bar staff and amazing drinks made me happy to come back after a long day of sightseeing. Staff will go out of their way to see that you are happy and have everything you need. Will be back!
We enjoyed a beautiful and spacious room on the top floor of the elegant Westin. The location is the perfect spot for a walk to almost every major sight. Lots of good places to find dinner in the surrounding area as well. Our one "complaint" - we found the staff a bit mixed - from incredibly helpful and friendly, to supercilious and unhelpful. We do note that is was high-season and the hotel was very busy,
Simply put - as others have noted, the hotel needs to be updated. When we arrived, the Bellman literally ignored us and left us standing with our three bags. When I say ignored, as we got out of the taxi he looked at us and turned away and walked elsewhere. It should not be incumbent on us to request assistance on arrival. I am not sure the last time the property had a refresh, but I would guess the 70s. All of the carpets throughout the hotel, including in the room, looked dirty. When walking down the halls to your room, every service area is exposed - I cannot understand why they would not have a door so that you do not see the “plumbing” of the hotel. It is certainly not attractive. Our bathroom may have been ensconced in marble, but it literally looked like what was used in the 70s. For good reason - it was likely done at that time. I would have thought for a property charging what they charge, there would be coffee service in the morning. None. There was also no coffee available in the room. This is not an inexpensive hotel. It may not be as expensive as other hotels but for the price they should provide much more. That said, until the owner of the property makes a decision to update it, it will continue to be the same place - relying on a photo of an attractive exterior with a very unattractive dated interior.…
The Westin Excelsior is a wonderful hotel. Our room was large and beautifully furnished. It is a hotel in the old style of luxury, courteous service, and attention to detail. I absolutely recommend this hotel very highly.
I stayed in this property for two nights with my family and the experience was great. Despite that the hotel needs some renovation to be more appealing, the altitude of hotel staffs and food were hard to beat. Not to mention that the location was so close to most of the attractions in walking distance. Taxi service was right around the corner and always available if we needed to go to Vatican City or the train station. Highly recommending the desert in the Doney.
Service is none existent, rooms are beyond tired and need more than a coat of paint, our toilet ran the whole time, king size bed was two single beds pushed together, with single mattresses, lighted make up mirror did not work and hair dryer was melted, there were a total of zero items in the fridge and at 5:30 pm they knocked on the door and handed us 2 chocolates I guess that was their turn down service We arrived at 11am bags were stored till we returned at 3pm, not only did they not take our bags to our room while we were away we had to take them up ourselves
