The guesthouse is nice with kitchen and ensuites. We were the only people staying at the time so it was fairly quiet. We stayed in August and the room was excruciatingly hot. There is no air con, just a small fan and windows do not have fly screens. You have to open the windows or you will suffocate and when...

I write this (long) review because we always sleep in guesthouse in holidays, everywhere we go (amsterdam, berlin, stockholm, london, dublin, barcelona...) and it's the first time this situation happened to us! We made a reservation on this guesthouse in may 2012 for july 2012... So 2 months ago! The director of the guesthouse sent us an email two weeks...

The place is nice. Location is fine. Since it is an apartment, there is no reception which means no one to help you out. It was our first time in Rome so it would have been nice with a receptionist that could have helped us find the right busses, restaurants, sights, etc. If you are new to Rome, I wouldn't...

My husband and I stayed in one room, and my sister stayed in another. The apartment is a nice, spacious, clean apartment on the third floor of a residential apartment building (which is actually the 4th floor) with no elevator. Lots of stairs. The building itself is in a slightly shady neighborhood. The noise from the street during the night...

To be honest, I was slightly anxious that this was too good to be true. I was wrong. I had heard horrible things about pick pockets at the rail station, so we chose to accept the offer of a car to pick us up at the airport. An hour and a half late, delays from LHR, we came through customs...

Ylenia's Guest House is all you need in Rome. Spacious and clean rooms with enough closet space for everyone. Fresh bedding and comfortable furniture. Spacious and very clean bathrooms with the typical Italian amenities. Only a 10 minute walk to the historic center. 5 minutes away from two of the bigest basilicas in Rome, San Giovani and Santa Maria Magiore....

Our trip to Italy was quite eventful initially as we were pickpocketed on the train. So we lost the passport and some cash! Fortunately for us, the owner of this hotel was very helpful and it really made a big difference for the rest of our stay in Rome. The room was very spacious and we like the kitchen and...

Staying in Esquilino

Neighbourhood Profile
Esquilino
Old school vibe from the very beginning is the only way to describe the Esquilino neighbourhood. The Esquilino takes pride in being one of the oldest areas in Rome for its key location on one of the city’s famous seven hills. From an ancient neighbourhood to its modern incarnation as a multicultural hub, Esquilino always has something going on—polyglot vendors debate street artists while kids play pick-up basketball games. Look around you: this area isn’t like the historic centre. Liberty architecture, large piazzas, and long boulevards mix with archaic arches, secret side alleys, and beautiful churches like Santa Maria Maggiore.
