Four of us spent a week in Il Casale di Max. The owners welcomed us, and showed us around the house: a nice stone villa. A good kitchen and a large living room (wich we never used) on the ground floor. On the second floor there is two bedrooms with bathrooms (let's be honest, the showers aren't great, but who cares?). Then the more imporant: the outside: a football court, vegetable garden, swimming pool og barbeque. We spent all days outside. Eating under the vines, athing all day, barbequing at night. This is really what life should be! Only an hour to Rome if you'ld like lunch there some time. We also visited Civita di Bagnoregio an hour and a half away. Buy you groceries at the local Conad, just a short drive from the villa. We can strongly recommend Il Casale di Max, and hope many more will have a great time there!…
From the moment we arrived, Ornella and Elio gave us a wonderfully warm welcome to their exceptionally beautiful and well equipped home. They could not have been more helpful, then or later - Ornella even gave the remnant of our party a lift to the local station on our last day. The house lies in a stunning position in the Lazian hills, with spectacular views all around. Our grandchildren enjoyed not just the lovely pool, but the football pitch, the outdoor play equipment and picking tomatoes in the little vegetable garden. A super week enjoyed by our whole family (aged 2-78!)
We booked the whole of il Casale di Max for our family holiday last summer. Our plane was delayed and we were therefore late in arriving at the house - tired and hungry. We were met by the owner (Ornella) who was clearly furious at our late arrival. She showed us round the house with extreme bad grace and was not keen to allow us to use the "shed" at the bottom of the garden - despite the fact we had booked the whole property - and needed the space. She kept warning us that no extra guests could be accommodated - as though we were going to have a rave and invite all our friends - and told us that the pool man would be reporting to her! She has an apartment in the main farmhouse where she stayed that night. We had asked for privacy and she did leave the following morning. She returned with her husband later in the holiday and told us off again for breaking a glass which was part of a set and left in the kitchen or our use- we replaced it. The house is gorgeous and the pool is kept clean. The views are spectacular. The main house has no air conditioning and gets very hot. We loved the area but wouldn't return to il Casale di Max where despite its beauty, we weren't made to feel comfortable or welcome by the owners.…
We visited here for one week at the start of July and it was probably the most relaxing holiday I have ever had. You can't imagine how fabulous this property actually is - we'd lie by the pool and be totally awestruck by the views. The photos on the website do not do it justice at all, it really is better when you get there. The gardens are immaculate. The surrounding area is quiet but there are many suggested itineries provided should you wish to explore. We didn't do too much as we couldn't drag ourselves away from the pool and jacuzzi! Ornella is wonderful, helpful and kind. I would love to come back here sometime in the future.
From the moment we entered the gate to Il casale di Max, we knew that we had made the right choice, and that it would be a beatiful and relaxing holiday. The warm reception at arrival, the charming house with its cosy rooms and well-found kitchen, not to mention the pool and the stunning views ... we loved every minute of our 2 weeks there and didn't even feel tempted to go sightseeing, even though lots of suggestions of "where to go and what to do" were found in the house. The Carrefour supermarket 10 minutes away was well-supplied, and we spent a number of evenings at the barbecue in the garden preparing sumptous meals and drinking local wine. A visit at the restaurant La vecchia quercia at walking distance is also recommendable if you feel like going out for a meal. But nothing beats the relaxing, sunny days at the pool reading books and enjoying the view - we would certainly like to return to Selci one day again to say hello to Ornella and Elio and have the benefit of staying at their beautifully restored casale.…
This B&B is a pure dream, simply a divine experience. The owners are very friendly and make you feel at home since the first minute you spend in their property. They offer you a very good welcoming drink and they show you their wornderful house so that you can appreciate all the wonderful details (the antique forniture, the fire place, the old and functional kitchen and the comfortable swimming pool). The place is very quite and perfect to have some privacy. The scenery is unforgettable and all the surrounding hills and the views take your breath away. A real life time experience!
Like another reviewer we were also put in a "shed" despite the fact that we had booked (we thought) one of the bedrooms in the main house. We booked directly with the owners - BIG MISTAKE! We tried to complain and ask for a refund so we could leave and book in somewhere else - owner NOT interested and up came the language barrier. This was a really upsetting, we had saved hard for this holiday and were charged the same rate as the rooms in the house for an inferior accommodation that would make a tent homely. No concession was made on the price, no refund was offered or given and the owner seemed not to care that we were unhappy. A really unpleasant and disappointing experience which we would not wish to repeat. We left after a couple of days deciding to cut our losses rather than continue to endure a surly owner and dreadful accommodation. There are plenty of good properties around in the area so don't bother to waste your time or money with this one. The area was lovely and we would love to return again, but NEVER AGAIN to Il Casale di Max.…
Casale di max is a wonderful restored farmhouse in a glorious setting in the Sabine hills near Rome. The house, garden and swimming pool are beautifully kept and the views from the house and garden could not be bettered. We were absolutely devastated on arrival to be put in an unfinished 'little house' annex (pine shed!) at the bottom of the garden and charged the same rate as for the main house. This shed is NOT of the same standard as the farmhouse ( bare wires, no window in the toilet, 2 single ikea day beds as furnishing) so beware when booking and make sure your room is in the farmhouse. This shed is not advertised on the property's website nor anywhere else.
