This is a small, beautiful hotel, with an amazing staff. In addition to help with restaurants and activities, they helped us book tickets to an "off the radar", appointment only, medieval church crypt, and also recommended an amazing farm to table restaurant near the Trulli houses in Alberobello. It was an unforgettable experience.

We stayed in suite #1003, which is a large, multi-level suite with a terrace giving a great view overlooking the sassi. While the hotel and room #1003 are charming, there were some drawbacks: 1) The room is in a cave, and it definitely smells like it. The musty smell is not disguised by the essential oil air freshener in the...

I don't know if it's the best hotel in the Sassi di Matera, but it's wonderful. The boutique hotel has beautifully carved rooms in the Tuffo, very spacious, hight ceilings, very comfortable, very warm atmosphere. The hosts are very helpful for the tourists activity. Rooms are very quiet, internet fast. The breakfast is good. The hotel being in the middle...

This is a unique hotel pain-stakingly renovated over three years from a 13th century Church cave. It's location is fantastic as right in the heart of Sassi and everything within few minutes walk. If your driving car can leave it in the garage and they'll arrange for a porter to take luggage to the hotel. The staff are great and...

It is such a fun experience staying in a cave hotel in this unique area of the world. The staff couldn't have been nicer. Like some of the other reviewers, we upgraded to a more expensive room when we saw the standard room with its tiny spiral staircase to the bed. Fortunately, the upgrade was available. We also had trouble...

We stayed here for two nights and have thoroughly enjoyed it. The hotel is located in a pedestrian-only area, so you have to park several blocks away and it is somewhat difficult to find. Get directions/map from the hotel first. But once you're there you'll love it. Everything is built in caves (sassi) but is comfortable and charming. The staff...

We had a charming and unique sasso experience at L'Hotel in Pietra. The location is central for visiting the "sassi" area and have pleasant walks. We booked a small charming double floor sasso, which had been simply, but nicely, decorated. Breakfast at the lobby included a small but high quality range of products. We were able to park the car...

We stayed in the room in the old church / chapel. You have a nice view over the Sassi. The room is carefully designed and every detail fits in. The main hotel (where you also take the breakfast) is about 100m away (2 min by foot). Breakfast is served in a large grotto-style lobby (typical for the Sassi).

I was in awe when I first lay my eyes on the Sassi. And same for the hotel. Very fortunate to be upgraded from single room to 1008, the room that requires a climb to get to the bed. The design is so unique that it complete the experience of Matera. It was fun, but yes it might be a...

Matera is a spectacular place to visit, and this hotel made our stay there even more special. It's located perfectly; steps away (or from your rooftop terrace, if you have one), you can see what we thought was the best view of Matera with the Duomo at the top. The room was spacious and beautifully designed with remnants of the...
