Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.

This was our first trip to Madrid, and the Urso Hotel and Spa was an ideal property for us and our needs. In terms of location, we are comfortable taking public transportation but never had to because the Urso is a 15-25 minute walk to everything. Taxis are also readily

First of all the hotel itself is a beautiful property located in a very quaint and trendy neighbourhood. It’s an old palace with beautiful interior design and rooms with very high ceiling and a very comfortable bed. But that’s all I like about this hotel. The windows are not

First the positive - good location, plenty of restaurants in vicinity. The basement pool, while small, is a nice respite from the heat or a day's walking. The reception staff encountered while in the hotel were all very nice. The elevator was fun. Unfortunately...the experience

Spent three nights in this beautiful boutique hotel at the end of October. I can’t fault it. Delicious breakfasts, friendly staff, beautiful rooms, lavish bathrooms with gallons of hot water. Centrally located. Well worth the pennies.

Dear Ana, The Buildin across the street, the Palace of the Count of Villagonzalo, was built in 1748 by the Marquis of Ustáruz. From 1862 to 1866, the Count of Villagonzalo commanded several modifications to the architect Juan Madrazo y Kuntz, who restored the palace inspired with ideas of Viollet-le-Duc and with references to the 19th century Isabellan period. Until the beginnings of the 21st century, the palace was occupied by the descendants of the Count. This historical building is currently undergoing a meticulous restoration due to its cultural, architectural and historical heritage. If you dont want noise from the construction, we have rooms on the opposite side so, do not hesitate to contact us if you want to stay next mont. I look forward to welcoming you soon at URSO Hotel. Warm regards, Patricia Fernández, Hotel Manager
