It is not the first time I have been in this hotel, it is so lovely that I try to book it every time I visit Madrid, which is often. I have been hosted in different rooms, all of them with a different look, and each time I liked more. In this occassion I am staying in the Junior suite,...

This was a very quaint, boutique hotel right off Plaza Santa Ana. We could walk to any main attraction in 8-15 minutes max. We opted for the Jr Suite because the price was right, and kept dropping as I checked back daily. I ended up getting this room for less than the exterior. SCORE! Check in was a BREEZE. Arrived...

I made a reservation through tripadvisor to stay at roommate Alicia, a few days later I got a call to say I was going to be staying in their partner Bemate apartment. Basically this was just a rented apartment about 1km away from the hotel. The apartment was quite basic but fine and nicely decorated, it was just annoying that...

We stayed at Alicia Roommate Hotel for four nights in October. The location of the hotel is great. It is at the corner of a small square that has quite a few restaurants and cafes. It is walking distance to most of the key touristic attractions such as Prado Museum, Thyssen Museum, Plaza Mayor, Plaza Sol and the main shopping...

I had been to Madrid twice prior to my recent visit, although I had never spent time in or near Plaza Santa Ana. I also had never heard of the very cheesy-named Room Mate chain of hotels. So my decision to book a room at Hotel Room Mate Alicia for 3 nights was completely based on the positive reviews I...

I was recently in Madrid on business and but wanted to stay somewhere close to shops and restaurants in walking distance rather than being off a main highway. Mission accomplished with this place. It is in a historic and beautiful part of Madrid, close to downtown offices, 20-25 minutes from the airport. The first room I got in the first...

We actually stayed a while back. Location is very central and convenient,to walk and visit. Style is pleasantly modern and playful. Good quality for the price. Do not forget ear plugs though. It is very noisy due to environment. Warm hospitality indeed; staff was remarkably friendly which is a testament to management, as we found Madrilenes in general not so...

Plaza Santa Ana is the hotspot in Madrid for the social live. I never recognized so many restaurants and tavernas in a small area. And this hotel is right at the corner of this plaza. For walks to experience Madrid it is the ideal starting point. But be prepared in the night. Sleeping with open window is almost impossible (you...

We did not stay at the actual hotel but in an apartment located in the Latin Section of Madrid. The apartment was good, not super luxurious but very nice. The best part was the location! Just around the corner from several restaurants and a short walk to the plaza mayor.

Lovely welcome from the desk staff and very central location at the Plaza de Santa Anna. The room was boutiquey and the breakfast was help yourself and quite adequate. Would recommend it. Taxis do go by frequently and there can be a little noise late at night on the weekend.

Staying in Huertas

Neighbourhood Profile
Huertas
Also known as Barrio de las Letras, Huertas was once home to prominent literary figures, Miguel de Cervantes and Lope de Vega among them. The neighbourhood is committed to celebrating its rich heritage: Calle Huertas itself is inlaid with quotes from celebrated authors, street names pay homage to them, and second-hand bookshops pervade. Huertas receives a fair amount of spillover from the center — side streets around Plaza Santa Ana take on a foreign party atmosphere at night, and you always see young backpackers navigating the streets — but as you descend into the neighbourhood, everything becomes a little more cramped and slightly less refined, and takes on more of an underground feel. Live music is at the heart of Huertas: by night, its subdued bars are ideal for meeting friends, sipping cocktails, and chatting quietly while enjoying jazz or singer-songwriter performances.
