Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The hotel could hardly be better located. Right in the heart of the Salamanca district, where all the shops, restaurants are and near the famous Paseo del Arte where the best museums are located. The rooms are excellent (I particularly recommend the attic ones that I find best value – and space – for money), well decorated, comfortable and modern. The bar is A#1 with a couple of shelves with more than 300 bottles on them (yes, I counted them). The restaurant seems to be a different company under the same roof and seems good although we never dined there, just had their desserts at the bar. Breakfast, which is taken at the restaurant, is very good. I have nothing else to add about the hotel but TripAdvisor requires me to use at least 200 words, so yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda.

The Totem hotel in Madrid is one of those hotels that truly leave a mark. When first looking at the hotel it seemed like a normal city hotel however it was completely different. Ever since entering the service was incredible, bags were carried in for you and taken up to your room, concierge and reception staff were extremely professional and kind, the lobby area (reception, entrance hall and lobby bar) all had a very nice elegant but modern design. The hotel was based in an old Madrid building with an amazing character and the design of the hotels respects that originality whilst still remaining unique and modern. The rooms were on average small, however space was optimized to make for a pleasurable stay, staying in a non-street facing room the noise was minimal and sleeping was comfortable. The bed was very nice and multiple pillows+blankets were offered. The minibar was well stocked although I would say a little expensive. Breakfast was held at pimiento verde (integrated restaurant in hotel) and it was astonishing the dishes were of amazing quality and tasted very good, a great way to start the day! I definitely suggest the totem hotel for a stay in Madrid, great location with extensive access to restaurant shops and a good environment overall. Although it may seem like a 4 star hotel the service and quality offered is 5 star!

Loved this hotel. I was only there for one night but it’s in such a great location & neighbourhood(cute boutique shops and restaurants all around you). Staff were incredibly professional and kind. When I got up in the morning and came downstairs the doorman had some great suggestions of spots to visit for a bite. Room was lovely - on the smaller side. I was traveling alone. No bath. Quite - I had one facing into a courtyard.

This is a great hotel. Beautiful decor, very kind, welcoming, and efficient front desk folks, nicely decorated, quiet, and comfortable room. We arrived late at night after a long day of travel, and were really happy to be treated so well by the front desk people. It was close to midnight and we were starving, so they took our bags to our room and ushered us into the bar/lounge where an attentive young man brought us a great salad (very fresh, perfectly dressed and seasoned) and a grilled cheese/turkey sandwich, which was really good. You can tell a lot about a place by the salad, and after one bite we knew we were going to be fine. The neighborhood is one of the best in Madrid — wide beautiful tree lined boulevards mixed with cozy smaller streets, tons of shops and stores, good restaurants are plentiful, and the buildings are all well maintained and charming. 20-30 min walk to just about everything you’d want to do in Madrid.

Hotel is situated in the upscale Salamanca neighbourhood. From first sight, hotel’s Decor is elegant and chic, staff at reception is welcoming and friendly. Initially, we got a room on lower level floor, since I am sensitive to street noises, although hotel was fully booked, the staff was able to move us to a higher level floor. Room is cosy, bed sheets are marvellous, turndown service every night put fresh water next to bed. Breakfast is excellent, bar is superb with amazing Cocktails we tried every night. We had to leave early in the morning to the airport, staff prepared our coffee and “picnic basket” to go. We can’t wait to visit the Totem again!!!

Great Hotel with the worst reservation system possible. The reservation system if you email them is slow, unreliable, with different people giving you different information. Once you are able to book the experience is great, but until you do the checkin you are at risk

Just got back from a work and then play trip to Madrid. We stayed in the hotel for 10 days. Everyone from the front desk to the housekeeping team to the folks in the restaurant were incredibly helpful and friends. And Curt and Paloma at the lobby bar were the BEST!!!! We spent a lot of time with Curt and Paloma and they were always fun and attentive. I can't wait to go back!!

The Totem Madrid is an intimate luxury hotel located in a very convenient upscale neighborhood. World class shopping is all in walkable distance in this elegant and safe location. The staff is very friendly and professional. Paula Bellon at the front desk impressed us in particular with her extraordinary efforts to assist us with a number of unusual yet important service requests that we made during our stay. Her commitment to world-class hospitality and guest service was very impressive.

My wife and I had a very nice one night stay here. We don’t know Madrid at all. The hotel had a really relaxed ambiance, nice environment, great lounge and bar and the staff were terrific, attentive and knowledgeable. Location good though we didn’t have the time to explore. On the expensive side but so is everything in Madrid
