Our stay at Hostal Acapulco was our 2nd. We think the Hostal is in perfect location just few steps to Gran Via and also all the sights in the city center are close by. The staff is very nice, helpful and flexible. You feel so welcome from the first minute. Rooms are nice and they also have free wifi for...

I had a short stay in Hostal Acapulco at the end of December 2016. My room was very comfortable and the bathroom had a bathtub and a bidet. I was able to control the room temperature (important in winter!). The staff at the reception were always very helpful, even when at 6am when I was looking for somewhere to go...

The hostel is situated in a great location, very close to the Gran Via where you can find anything to do. The hostel itself is very safe. There is always a staff member on duty. The room has its own bathroom and everything is very clean. You can change the temperature to your liking. There's a small fridge to use....

I booked several stays at Hostal Acapulco on our recent trip to Spain based on the Lonely Planet review. The accommodations were perfect for us! The rooms we were in were very nice, the location was excellent and the staff was very accommodating, allowing us to store our luggage before our room was ready and providing excellent local information. I was initially scared to book Hostal Acapulco despite the high reviews here on TripAdvisor because it did not have a very active Facebook page (and a hostel's active FB page is one of the many things I check before deciding to book or not.) However, I finally decided to book a room after Javier promptly replied to all my...

We spent 4 nights in this hotel in October 2016. The accommodations were very clean, comfortable and in an ideal location for central Madrid. The staff were most helpful in assisting us in arranging train travel out of the city, and explaining the use of the Metro in the city. We would definitely stay there again. K and J Borg,...

We enjoyed our room with balcony overlooking Plaza del Carmen. It was an easy 1/2 hour walk to major museums. Javier was an excellent host; helpful in recommending restaurants locals enjoyed, and suggesting where I might purchase a cel phone. And the rest of the staff were friendly as well.

Staying in Centro

Neighbourhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
