This was the place where I found the cheapest single room in Madrid for the night of my stay. The fairest thing to say is that is was a much better option than a shared hostal dormitory, the room had a shower and basin, and the location of the property is in a quiet spot just off Puerta de Sol,...

En voi suositella missään tapauksessa! Ankea, synkkä, vankilamainen, epäsiisti. Ei ansaitse edes 1 tähteä. Vaihdoimme hostalia 15 min vierailun jälkeen. I can not recommend under any circumstances! Dark, grim, prison-like, disheveled. Does not deserve even 1 star. We exchanged Hostal After 15 min visit

Yes, it could do with a coat of paint, yes the toilet arrangements are "quaint", no the owner doesn't speak English.......however, the room was clean, the bed was comfortable and the shower was hot. The location is superb, how much would you pay for a hotel on Oxford Street, or accommodation a 2 minute walk from Times Square, 5 nights...

Dont understand why the people complain so much about this hotel. The price is very very cheap, so You cant expect a four star hotel...for the price the conditions are ok. For me it was just a place to sleep, in a perfect location and a superb price, so...perfect.

Location-wise this hostel is great for Madrid, very central. However the set up is strange. In our room we had a shower and a sink but the toilet is outside the room in the reception area. So for example if you want to go to the bathroom at night you have to go out in your pyjamas where there could...

Excellent location in the heart of Madrid. Kind stuff that tells you things about Madrid that are very interesting and can't be found in ordinary turistic guides. Comfortable beds. The unique opportunity to wake up in the morning and the through the window the church San Gines. Also very cheap. Unique experience!

It is a simple place with good central location. The room was old but clean with a very small window. First day WiFi did not work (tried with two computers) but the owner denied it (“never happened before so it cannot happen”) even after trying unsuccessfully at his computer! Second day WiFi worked but did not reach to our room....

Staying in Centro

Neighbourhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
