The room was fab. Definately get the Superior doubles - they are worth the extra. Three juliette balconies on a corner overloooking the square in room 403 was just great. Staff were very, very friendly, jolly and extremely helpful Breakfast? - if you're an English chap then relax; scrambled eggs, sausages, bacon all unlimited from chaffing dishes is available. Croissants...

We travelled to Spain at least a dozen of times in the past ten years and, anytime we are in Madrid, we stay at Hotel Plaza Mayor. We loved the location and, until recently, we liked the service. For our upcoming trip to Madrid, we booked this hotel via Hotels.com. We made an honest mistake of selecting February instead of...

I stayed three nights in a single room. The bathroom/shower is tiny and tight. The room faced Plaza Mayor. At night it could get noisy with pedestrians/shoppers, or drunk people screaming on their way to a bar. The location is amazing. There is so much to do near the Hotel. It is near a metro station. Some of their staff...

Hotel Plaza Mayor is in the perfect location, and for less than $100 per night, you can't beat it. The staff are professional and courteous and the room was spotlessly clean. The room was teeny-tiny and pretty basic, but I wasn't planning to spend a lot of time in it. It worked perfectly for me.

We stayed for a couple of nights before our tour and then again at the end. It is PERFECTLY situated to get anywhere. You literally look out the window to the Plaza Major. You can walk almost anywhere from this location. We took several walking tours from here. It is a pretty basic hotel but the front desk was helpful,...

The hotel location is good. Everything is on hand to visit Madrid. The staff is attentive and kind. Only that in four hours was singing and noise outside and with an open window sleepless. The reception did need and gave us a room to the inner block and everything was perfectly fine.

This hotel is centrally located and clean. They're the positives. We were given a small room with a glass door that looked over a light well, no window that could be opened to air the room. The air conditioner was very noisy and had minimal effect. After 2 days of no sleep we asked for a room change and the...

Very nice location, stone's throw away from Plaza Mayor, hence the name probably. Helpful and friendly reception staff. We booked a double bed room for a family of 3 (couple and a child of 3.5 yr), upon arrival the reception staff gave us 2 room choices, vbut she was insisting on a room saying that it was the biggest among...

The front desk attendant was really nice to me while I spoke to him in Spanish, but as soon as I showed him my US passport his attitude towards me changed. He was not disrespectful, but has that superior attitude.

The hotel is ideally placed in the centre of Madrid, the personnel is very nice and breakfast is fine. The room I had was quite small and a little noisy but I suppose you ay for the location so all in all, not bad if you want to stay in a centrally located small hotel for less than 100 euros

Staying in Centro

Neighbourhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
