Location is very central and price is not high. The rooms are clean but maybe a little run-down. The bathrooms are comfortable. Although the rooms are small there is a lot of storage space which is convenient. There is a balcony in most rooms - which is very nice for smokers/others. The staff is very nice and attentive but they...

The location is impressive, but that said, it came with a lot of noise. Our room faced the back, and due to the warm weather and no A/C, we opened the window to cool down the room. We spent 58 Euro a night. For a few euro's more you could have a quieter nicer place.

The hostel is located in a charming "plaza" on the 3rd floor. Elevator works perfectly, big enough for me and my bags. Less than a minute distance from Plaza Mayor and close to a lot of other sightseeing places. Great value, would recommend to friends and family. Private room is small but very comfy, with a double bed and private...

I booked a single room with private bathroom for 2 nights in February for 30 euros per night. Situated just next to Plaza Mayor and only few minutes from the Sol metro station, your location cannot get much better. Arriving to Hostal Cruz Sol too early to check-in (11:15 am), I was welcome by an older lady who did not...

Hostal Cruz Sol gave us exactly what we were expecting. As everyone here has said, the location is phenomenal - it is right next to the Plaza Mayor and very near the Mercado de San Miguel, and many attractions and wonderful restaurants are within walking distance. You'll want to walk anyway, the old sections of Madrid are enchanting, with new...

If a clean comfortable place to stay in a great location but no extras is what you need I would recommend the Hostal Cruz Sol. The hostel was located at the plaza Santa Cruz (.Just next to the plaza Mayor) and is located on 3rd floor of the building. The room was very small but very clean. Also the bathroom...

Location is perfect, just next to Plaza Major and most of nightlife and attractions are at walking distance, Rooms are very basic but clean. Lady at the reception was nice and helpful. Sure, this place isn't a luxury hotel by any means. When you enter, you either walk up a rustic flight of stairs or take a tiny elevator up to the third floor, where you are checked in by a housekeeper, and they don't really speak English. The rooms are small, and the shower faucet wasn't attached to the wall, but...

This hotel is very easy to find, 5 minute walk from Puerto Del Sol. It is also right near the main square where there are restaurants and a few bars. Good for a breakfast as this hotel does not offer this. The room was a bit small but it was only a short stay for us so it ws sufficent....

Staying in Centro

Neighbourhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.

“Ask for a room overlooking the plaza..If travelling in threes ask for 308.. it will give you 3 beds and a fab view!!! do not take another room ..esp the cheaper one they have at the back next to the store cupboard. it is windowless and stuffy..and no view at all. They also change the towels each day if you request them to .Take care not to lose your swipe card..getting them to understand and then replace it is quite an impossible task!!!”
