The owner of this hostal is the sweetest man I've ever met at an accommodation. Make sure you ask for his suggestions and take them. He guides you away from tourist trap restaurants and gives great recommendations for cheap places to eat. On top of that, the room was spotless each and every night. The location is also ideal. It...

Our room was clean and spacious and included a computer for internet access. Maid service was a pleasant surprise considering it was a hostal. Be aware that the hostal is two flights up with no elevator. The somewhat eccentric owner was very nice, friendly and helpful.

Well we booked this hostal after reading the reviews on trip advisor and we must admit this was a great place to stay. It was bang in the centre of things where everything was accessible. You infact have a Romanticism museum right opposite of the hostal. It has absolutely amazing rooms with great hospitality by the owners (Jose). Jose is...

Very nice place with a central location, the metro station is too close. Also the romanticism museum is directly infront of the hostel. It's very good value for money. Rooms are spacious & tidy. The owner "Jose" is extremely friendly, I would like to thank him as he helped us in our "excess" luggages & went to grab a taxi...

What everyone with 4/5 star rating has said is right. The location is superb, the cleanliness without question and the staff go over and beyond the call of duty. In Madrid, nobody speaks English but here, at the Benamar, they try their best and always have a smile. When you meet the owner, ask his advice( and take it). Local...

My husband and I found this place on tripadvisor and stayed here for a week for a quick vacation on a budget. First time in madrid. Location is perfect, one block (or less) from the metro station. Many places to eat and drink around here.. ask José (the owner I think) about Madrid Madriz and the churros place (we went...

The situation of this place was excellent. It is near all shops, bars and tourist attractions. Not too noisy as it is on a quiet street. This is a budget hotel but very clean, with computer, good wifi and flat screen TV. The sign is easy to miss as it is above the first floor. Don't come with heavy suitcases...

We stayed here for 2 nights in August and were very impressed with the value and facilities of this hostal. The first impression is a little daunting, as in Madrid apparently it is common for hostels to be on upper floors. We carried a heavyish suitcase up 3 floors (carpeted) before we found the reception area. But once there the...

We enjoyed our stay here, especially our conversations with the friendly and attentive host. There are three flights of steps and no lift but he insisted on carryiong our bags, and gave us very good tips for local meals (including the wonderful cafe Madrid Madriz where we enjoyed very good three course lunches and wine for three people for 30...

Staying in Chueca

Neighbourhood Profile
Chueca
Chueca is the hip, gay neighbourhood of Madrid where many of the streets are narrow and intimate, but where the hustle and bustle and the eclectic storefronts and people give it a distinctly urban feel. The main thoroughfare is Calle Hortaleza and the main square is Plaza Chueca, completely filled with terraza tables serving copas (mixed drinks) during summer. A mixture of trendy and grungy, some of the adult businesses here are explicitly racy in their signage. From the rainbow flags to the signs above the entrances of its many funky bars, to the date spot restaurants, Chueca is a vibrant and colorful place. It's always interesting to explore the different corners of Chueca by day, and by night, the area becomes a major nightlife destination when the clubs open their doors.
