great location for first time visitor to madrid that would like to explore on foot, on pedestrian street, close to many things, nice staff. however, they have modern rooms probably designed by young architects, who think there's nothing wrong with bathrooms without doors or walls. in our great top floor corner room, the shower was visible from the bed, and...

It was an excellent place to stay. Very clean. Comfortable for our family of four. The room and bathroom was large. All my specific requests were met. We stayed here for 4 nights the week before Christmas. The hotel is newly renovated, the lobby is lovely with a fireplace and Sofas to relax. The rooms look out onto to the popular streets. Can't fault the cleanliness of the entire hotel. We will definitely be visiting Madrid again and we will most definitely be booking hotel Francisco once...

We loved this hotel, our superior room was beautifully decorated, lovely and clean and the hotel was in a perfect position. It is a 3 minute walk to the Madrid Palace and in the middle of the shopping district. Our only reservation was that the bathroom was open to the bedroom, so you could hear everything as your 'friend' sat...

It is in the heart of the city. Minutes away from everything you need to see. We had a room facing the walking area with great bars, shops, etc. Truly enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to any of our friends.

Very helpful staffs, extra to help when needed. Give some highlights that we are looking because of our origin. We are looking for places that looks back a centuries ago, due to our forefathers origin in Spain. We just got connected with some old countrymen who are resident of Spain.

This hotel has the best location in Madrid. It is near most tourist places, city center, Hop-hop off stops, subway, good restaurants and drinking places. We stayed at the 6th floor with a huge balcony for 2 nights for a price of nothing The elegance of the hotel and the room is just amazing. The staff are very nice and...

We spent three nights at modern Hotel Francisco I at the beginning of November. Our room overlooked Calle de Avenal, the pedestrian street leading to Puerto del Sol. The ambiance was sophisticated, the bed comfortable and the street noise loud all night, all weekend. We took the buffet breakfast option and found it delicious and a good selection of choices....

Stayed at the Francisco I for 2 nights with my partner as part of a tour of Spain at the start of October. When we arrived, we noticed how central the location was. Everything was reachable on foot which is what you want from a city break. Check in was swift and we were up in our room within 5...

Staying in Centro

Neighbourhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
