Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The B&B is very centrally located which is a huge plus, with it being relatively easy to walk to most big sites. Stairs not a problem. The B&B basically a subdivided flat with four (I believe) rooms. Rooms are tiny but have heat and air-conditioning. The biggest issue was that they don't seem like the pictures and are rather dark and cramped. Bathroom very cramped if you are tall, to the point where you may need to keep the door open if you are sitting down. Overall it just didn't seem worth the price. Stayed one night, which was enough. Perhaps better for the budget traveler if price was adjusted.

Hotel's Favourite
I only stayed for one night at the end of a long trip to Spain, but I wish I had booked a longer stay here!! The rooms are beautiful, the location is fantastic, and the service was wonderful. The hotel is difficult to find, only a small plaque outside. You have to ring to get in and explain which hotel you have a reservation for, but once you're checked in you'll get a code to let yourself in and out. The only issue I had was that the stairwell going up to the hotel wasn't very well lit - it seemed dangerous at times when I couldn't find a lightswitch anywhere and was trying to heft a suitcase down the stairs in the dark! Otherwise, this is a great, unique hotel.

If you can't stand hotels give this lovely place a chance. In the center of Madrid but still quiet, building full of history but rooms comfortable and above all generous and kind hosts. Placed in a part of Madrid where you can't go more than 50 m between good restaurants or cafes.

Let's deal with the good things first: The location in the Huertas area is excellent, the room (a superior one) was quirky and attractive. When something went wrong, in this case when the hot water stopped working completely, and my wife found herself suddenly in an ice cold shower, they were very apologetic and got workmen in to fix it. Communication was excellent, However, to most English or American tourists, a "bed and breakfast" is an independent establishment with a limited number of rooms, where a (usually quite special) breakfast is served ON THE SAME PREMISES. That is not what this is. That seems to me potentially dishonest... This is actually part of a hospitality group, which includes the Calamo guest house on the 2nd flor (below) and at least 2 cafes... I think, looking at reviews, that the Artisitic, which I had tried to come to 6 or seven years ago, might have done its own breakfasts in the past... Now you have to go down three floors, 100 m up the road, cross the road and go to one of two or three cafés on the other side. Both of these are frenetic and understaffed. This seems to be an increasing trend in the restaurant sector in Spain, with chains of small but slightly differently branded branches, and I can absolutely understand the advantages of scale. But, to be honest, given that the Spanish do some of the best chain hotels, with excellent buffet breakfasts (H10 or Bed4U for example), one might be better going to one of those. I don't expect to need an umbrella to get breakfast in a B&B, or anything but the cheapest hotel. In addition, despite their website claims, it was cheaper overall to book via hotels.com. The advertised discount - like the name, appears a bit misleading.

We loved our stay here! Great location within walking distance of all of our planned activities and many good restaurants. Friendly staff and clean room. Also very affordable. We will definitely stay here again if we get the opportunity to visit Madrid.

My wife and I spent several days at the Artistic and the sister property the "Calamo Guesthouse" in the month of May. We chose the property not only because of the location but also due to the glowing reviews here on Tripadvisor. We reserved and communicated with the host well ahead (8 months) of our planned trip. We were asked (more than once) when our plane arrived thinking this would be to ensure someone would be there at the Artistic on our arrival. When we arrived at the Artistic, there was no one there to answer the door. I don't know what others would do being left out on the street. We did not have a local sim card yet as we had just landed but lucky our friend had one and was able to call....and leave a message. Shortly after we got a call back and received a "Code" to access the building and our room. Everyone knows there are 3 flight of wooden, noisy stairs to go up so pack light. We opened the squeaky door and made our way into our tiny room. There was a tall window that looked into an airshaft. During our time at Artistic, we stayed in 2 different rooms, both with the windows looking out into the airshaft. Tiny at best, Lilliputian at worst. The room at the "Calamo" on the 4th floor was the best. A bit bigger but still looking out onto the airshaft. We did not hear any street noise but if there is anyone coming in late, you will hear them on the stairs, opening the door and walking and talking in the hall and their room. All rooms were neat and clean. The showers were great (we had a private bathroom in all the rooms). The wifi worked well. In one of our rooms on the 3rd floor, the A/C (air conditioning) did NOT work. We were given coupons for two breakfasts to be had down the street. I honestly thought we would get a coupon for every day of our stay. Keep in mind, this is a B&B so the hosts are not always there. When they were, they were polite, very informative and willing to help. In conclusion, be sure you have a code to get in the building before you land in Madrid so you are not stuck in the street. Perhaps our expectations were too high.

Hi guys! First of all, thank you very much for your attention and your comments. Sorry so much for your really bad experience...remember that we are a Guesthouse, and we are in a neighbourhood where all buildings are consider "historical buildings" and they are "protected" for the Spanish Goverment, so we can´t touch the structure of all these buildings ( from XIX century). In our neighbourhood you will find really good options as Westin Palace, Ritz Mandarín and Grand Meliá. Maybe these hotels meet your expectations... You will always have your home here! Take good care! Warm regards from Artistic B&B family!!

We had planned this trip twice for 2020, but restrictions made us cancel. When we were ready to travel again, Álvaro was most gracious in welcoming us to Artistic B&B. And we are very glad we stayed there. The staff are phenomenal, friendly, helpful, and most willing to speak English (our Spanish is almost non-existent. They are very clear the B&B is on the third floor (to Americans, the ground floor isn't the 'first' floor) and no elevator, so three flights of stairs. But Aida, who was working when we arrived, came down and helped us with out bags (we didn't even ask). With that small gesture, we knew we were in good hands. By the way, I'm an older, 'creaky' traveller as the Scots would say but I got used to the stairs quickly. Our room was ample, nicely decorated, clean, and bright. As is often the case in older buildings, there aren't a lot of outlets, but there were enough to charge our phones and, when needed, laptops. We were at the front of the building, and Friday & Saturday nights could be a little noisy; but, we always slept well. Artistic B&B is nicely located in Las Letras/Huertas. An easy walk to so much of Madrid: Plaza Major, Puerta del Sol, Gran Via, the Prado, the Reina Sofia, the Thyssen-Bornemisza museum, the Retiro, Atocha Station, The Gran Via, Plaza de España, Royal Palace, Puerta de Acala, and more. And the neighborhoods are close-by: Chueca, Sol, La Latina (great, affordable food), Lavapiés (cosmopolitan edgy), even Colón (high-end shopping). The breakfast is very good. At the moment, not in the B&B, but you have a choice of two nearby restaurants: Gonzalez and Brown Bear Bakery. Gonzalez serves toasts and Spanish tortilla (more like a frittata) with coffee and pastry included; Brown Bear has a variety on offer: toast, eggs & bacon, pastry, even cake; plus coffee. Both are very good, though often busy. I really cannot recommend the Artistic B&B enough. Go, you will enjoy your stay.
