We had planned to stay at the Hilton (which did not open in time), and Mercure Madrid Centro was able to accomodate my family with 2 rooms with only 4 weeks notice- and we had a small balcony with a side view of the Prada Musuem (across the street) all lit up for Christmas. We were pleasantly surprised with friendly...

I spent six nights at this hotel with my wife. Extremely well located, ten to fifteen minutes away from the centre of old Madrid, and right next to the Prado and the Thyssen museums. Reception staff very competent, all speaking fluent english and ready with tips on restaurants and sites to see. Same pleasantness was extended to us by all...

Medium size hotel, located on a quiet street, close to the Prado and Thyssen museums. The hotel is comfortable and has sufficient public zones. The standard room is correct with a functional bathroom. The acclimatization is OK, but the mattresses are not comfortable. The breakfast is good and has a very convenient schedule (till 11.30). The hotel provides a private...

The first night was quite good. On the second day, the toilets broke and my room smelled like sh*it (literally) when I returned at night, I had to pack and move at 2 in the am, this was very uncomfortable. Since there was no handy man that night (and the day after) to fix it, I was moved to a...

This located right in the heart of Madrid has not big common facilities but all the staff working over there make it very friendly. It's located close to "Neptuno", "Cibeles" and "Museo del Prado". My room was average and clean enough. Just missing a proper bar/restaurant downstairs. Staff working by this Hotel was very nice and helpful.

If you want to have easy access to the museums, Retiro Park and Atocha train station, this is the perfect hotel. It's also a short walk to anywhere else in central Madrid. This is my second stay here and both times I have been very comfortable, enjoyed the breakfast and found the staff to be extremely helpful.

Staying in Huertas

Neighbourhood Profile
Huertas
Also known as Barrio de las Letras, Huertas was once home to prominent literary figures, Miguel de Cervantes and Lope de Vega among them. The neighbourhood is committed to celebrating its rich heritage: Calle Huertas itself is inlaid with quotes from celebrated authors, street names pay homage to them, and second-hand bookshops pervade. Huertas receives a fair amount of spillover from the center — side streets around Plaza Santa Ana take on a foreign party atmosphere at night, and you always see young backpackers navigating the streets — but as you descend into the neighbourhood, everything becomes a little more cramped and slightly less refined, and takes on more of an underground feel. Live music is at the heart of Huertas: by night, its subdued bars are ideal for meeting friends, sipping cocktails, and chatting quietly while enjoying jazz or singer-songwriter performances.
