Just left after a three night stay and loved it! The rooms are a bit small, but set up to work! The bathrooms were definitely bigger than expected. Staff is very helpful and location is great! Walking distance to almost anything you need or want, and short walk to the Metro! Very pleased with our stay in Madrid. We had...

The hotel is close to the city centre, good value of money, yet shouldn't be rated as four stars in my opinion. The hotel charges for using the safe, although not much of an amount (1.65 euro per day), this shouldn't be a practice as all hotels including low end ones provide such free of charge. Rooms are good however,...

Stayed her for three nights last weekend. Positives: very clean throughout, friendly staff, good location for shopping, dining & partying, wi-fi signal acceptable in room. Negatives: dated decor (VERY dated), awkward bathroom shape (getting in & out of the shower requires fitness), no view to speak of from room window, strong smell of oil from elevator area, poor noise insulation...

One has to walk the last bit to the hotel as taxis are not allowed to drop passengers to the hotel. Later you will find out that this is a walking street and only delivery vans are allowed. There are plenty of shops and restaurants and Malls in the vicinity within walking distance in the lanes and bylanes that surround...

We were close to everything we wanted to see and do. There is an elevator and a breakfast room/lounge. Our room was on the 5th floor and had a nice balcony. We were there on a weekend and didn't have any problems with noise. The room was large by European standards, as was the bathroom. The shower sometimes got cooler...

It's currently 1.26 in the morning and we have just been woken up AGAIN by what sounds like crowd of stampeding elephants in stilettos with hen and stag partys on their backs. The staff are lovely and check in is quick and friendly. The self service buffet breakfast is ok. The hot food is limited but there's lots of pastries...

3* hotel with 5* staff. Thanks go to Raphael who just arranged anything wee needed with no fuss or problem. We had a room on the 5th floor with a terrace. Great to have somewhere quiet to sit outside and catch any sun, away from the hustle of Madrid centre. Everywhere is close and in walking distance. The hotel also...

The hotel has the best location, it is located right between the popular plaza del Callao and Puerta del Sol. There are many shops and restaurants in the area and it is minutes away from the both metro stations. However, my sleep qualify was poor. I stayed on the 2nd floor so I am not sure if it is better...

We stayed here for three nights and were more than pleased with the Carlos V. We used the shuttle service to the hotel and it took us right to the door. Similarly we used it for the return to the airport and were provided with a smart clean car for the journey. The hotel is in a pedestrian area very close...

Staying in Centro

Neighbourhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
