This hostal is in an excellent location, 10 minute walk to the Prado and the Royal Palace. Only 2 minutes walk from Sol Metro station. The hostal is very good value. It is basic but clean. The staff were very helpful with all our tourist enquiries. Hairdryer is available at reception on request. Tip: book online tickets for the Prado...

For a short stay its perfect location and bargain price for city centre. Room was small but clean. Bathroom tiny but not a problem. Air con a bonus as would be very hot & stuffy without. No tea/coffee facility which was a shame. Towels new & white. Reception helpful (though communication was difficult as our Spanish is limited - our...

Near the punto cero in Madrid. Provides 24 hours reception. Laying in an old but good-loking building. Personnel OK. Clean rooms but small ones, just for two people in every room. Good place to start exploring the city.

53 euros is expensive for the room we had with no air conditioning. So we had to have the windows open as the room was stuffy and smelt bad. Guests have to ring bell to be let in which goes on all night, even though we asked for a quiet room not facing the streets with the pubs it was...

Very good value. Decent rooms, AC and a roomy bathroom. Some of the rooms face the street but if the windows are closed - the noise stays out. However, you can ask for a room that does not face the street. Fantastic location if you'd like to be in the center of the action, just 2 steps from Plaza del...

Staying in Centro

Neighbourhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
