Great points - very convenient to the major sights incl Sol and Plaza Major. Spotlessly clean shared bathrooms. Room cleaned well each day. Reasonable sized room looking out into a central lightwell meaning no street noise. Little portable aircon unit in the room. Not so great - bathrooms at one end of corridor means people tramping by the room at... More

5 mins away from plaza de sol and 20 mins from atocha station makes the place very central. You can get almost to every tourist attraction you want in the city by foot from there. The rooms were perfectly clean and convenient yet a little bit narrow. The staff were very helpful and nice. The prices were more than reasonable.... More

The owners were very friendly, welcoming and could speak several languages. The room was very cute and clean. It's right next to the Plaza Mayor, which is very convenient. Internet was working very well, as opposed to most hotels I've been to. I'll definitely go back there if I go to Madrid again. Only bad side: the room was smelling... More

I have been to at least 5 different hostels in Madrid Centro and I could definitely say that this hostal was my favorite. I felt safe and confortable as a solo traveler. Everything was clean and the wifi was free which is a plus. The staff was very nice and helpful. It is indeed noisy at night, however I personally... More

I had made a reservation for a hostal down the road called CH Prada. It was made through bookings.com- I actually recommend nobody to really use bookings.com...bad information and unrealistic rating (too high)...the reservation ended up having a credit card decline. though this was odd. It turned out they were booked but knew the owners of this hostal. They took... More

If you are looking for a low-cost guest house in the centre of Madrid this is a great option. A little noisy at night, but very clean and run by helpful and friendly staff. Shared bathrooms are immaculate. 5 minute's walk from Plaza Mayor and 20 minute's walk from Atocha train station.

Staff were friendly and helpful, bed was comfortable, price was very low, bathroom and room were clean (they were cleaning room and changing towels every day, bathroom was cleaned few times a day), there were two showers per floor, location was excellent, hostel is located 5 min of walk of Puerta del Sol.

I went there for five nights with two friends from oct. 2nd till oct. 7th. We were very positive with the hostel. Very clean bathrooms, fine bedrooms with fairly comfortable beds. There weren't many other guests at the hostel, so no line for the bathroom :-) And for the small amount per night, it was very cheap. I had a... More

I was traveling by myself and new to Madrid. I arrived very late after a long flight, and metro from the airport. The host could not have been nicer. I found the next day just what a magnificent location it is. It's so close to so many sights. As others have said, it's very clean and all the staff are... More

Staying in Centro

Neighbourhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
