Quiet place and not expensive at all. Bathrooms are shared but they are always very clean. We loved it so much that decided to stay another night. Is walking distance from all the good places in Madrid like Plaza Mayor, Plaza del Sol, El Mercadillo de San Miguel, ect.

Hostal Nersan is a bare bones immaculately clean, out of the way on a side street but wonderfully close to Plaza de Espana, Gran Via, Plaza del Sol and Plaza de Santo Domingo pensione. You get a small bedroom, very small bath, TV on the fourth floor of a formerly seemingly elegant apartment building. If you want convenient close in,...

Stayed this weekend and this place must have been totally redone since the previous reviews. We stayed in a twin room, but had a peek into other rooms as they weren't all occupied and they are all modern and nicely decorated and each has their own bathroom. It is located on the fourth floor of an apartment building on a...

Upon arrival in Madrid, it was extremely difficult to find Hostal Nersan. There is no sign outside the hostel or anything else to indicate where it is located. The staff was less than helpful and was never available. However, the hostel was very clean, had hot water and wifi, and provided towels. Also, there is no common area which was...

Considering location and price this hostel is a great choice.... Metro is very close so you can travel for a longer distance... It was good for us as we spent the days out to see sightseeings and came back in the night just for sleeping. The nearest food shops, restaurants, and also chinesse restaurants and shops are available. Nice staff,...

We booked this hostel with no high expectations, knowing what kind of horrific hostel accomodation central Madrid can offer. This was a pleasant surprise! We arrived at midnight and had no problem getting in, there is always someone there to answer the door and the phone. We were 3 girls and got a room with 3 separate beds at the...

i usually stay at low-end hotels. i have only stayed at 1 amazing hostel in osaka, japan. it had no frills, but it was super clean. the 2 people and i had 1 room and we had our own bathroom. it felt like a hotel and it was a value. this experience is what made me look up hostels again....

Staying in Centro

Neighbourhood Profile
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
