Just back from a three night stay at Axel hotel madrid. Really good location, walking distance to lots of bars / restaurants / shops. Boutique style hotel and quite dark decor, similar style to the malmaison chain in the uk, friendly welcoming staff. Decent buffet style breakfast. We were disappointed to discover that the pool rooftop bar was out of action for our stay, we felt we should have been told this on booking. In fact we only found out by chance through other guests, the roof area could be lovely but with the bars shut and no cushions on seats it looked abandoned. The pool pictures are very deceptive - it is no more than 1m wide. House keeping was poor, we saw no one for the first day and although the room was cleaned on day two we didn't have clean towels or the cups etc cleaned. We also had similar shower flooding problems like the previous reviewer. We paid over £200 per night for this hotel and booked it for the roof top bar / pool area - so were disappointed and wouldn't recommend it…
Stayed here for two nights. Our initial room (402) was set up like a studio apartment, with the shower and toilet right next to the bed. The first time my husband used the shower, it hadn't been on even three minutes, the entire room was flooded, with a drain barely working and no lip to the tiny enclosure itself. He turned off the water, jumped out of the shower and we got to work containing the mess, the water by this time was even under the bed and soaking our stuff on the opposite side of the room, going under the baseboard to the room next door. He went to the front desk to raise the alarm, came back up to help me finish cleaning and trying to salvage our belongings. Thirty minutes pass with no one coming to check on us. Then forty-five. My husband goes back downstairs to remind them. Finally they send someone up, and by this time, we've completely cleaned the entire mess between our towels and bathrobes. Turns out, there was no problem with the drain, just too much water that couldn't be drained fast enough. Design flaw. The maintenance guy was really sweet, did his best, took away our sopping wet towels and bathrobes, brought us fresh linens, and it was then we realized we were expected to stay in a very damp room with nowhere dry to air out our things. My husband goes back downstairs, makes it clear how bad the mess was, explains maybe they didn't understand the magnitude since we were so quick to clean it up. They agree to move us. We were moved to room 314, a larger room with more separation between the bathroom area and the bed. My husband goes to take a shower again, finishing what he started at by this point, was hours earlier. While the shower enclosure was larger, the same thing starts to happen again! This time less than a minute in! We were ready this time though, with me standing outside the shower stall, watching the water creep out and blocking it where I could. Finally we figured out the work around of turming the water on for short bursts. How anyone takes a full ten minute shower here is beyond us. Skip to later that night, it's late, all my husband wants to do is rest. We had been in this room for hours and it was still stifling hot. Zero air movement despite us looking up how to operate the thermostat to make sure we weren't doing something wrong. My husband goes back down to the front desk again, confirms we have it on the right setting, was told "Sometimes it takes a bit". Longer than 6+ hours? Awful. Do not stay here. Money better well spent at any of the Catalonia hotels in our experience. From what we can tell, this place is a marketing gimmick trying to act as a boutique hotel. Thanks for ruining my husband's birthday, Axel Hotel. We will not be back.…
Had a fantastic stay here. All of the staff were very friendly and always helpful. It’s a very central location which means that everywhere is within easy walk distance. The Sky bar was out of operation whilst we were there but the pool, gym, and sauna were working fine and you could bring drinks up from the bar on the ground floor, a good place to chill after a days sightseeing.…
Very well located hotel to visit Madrid and enjoy the night life. My room was excellent with high comfort and great design. The rooftop is great, even if the pool bar was closed for technical issues, but the views are astonishing. But what makes this hotel really amazing is its staff, especially Alberto who is the nicest guy you could ever met at a front desk. Always smiling and happy to help you and make you feel at home, he'll totally make your stay unforgettable.…
I really enjoyed this hotel. The front desk staff are incredibly friendly and attentive from start to finish. The rooms were ample and nicely appointed. Great showers and bathroom amenities. The rooftop has a great vibe, the gym is sufficient and the massage services are amazing. I highly recommend the latter. I would also recommend the bar in the lobby, as well as the Peruvian/sushi bar across the way. Fantastic service, great beverages and wonderful food. If anyone asks - YES - this is the perfect place for your stay in Madrid.…
