I stayed at this hostal for the 2nd time this year. It's not too difficult to find another hostal within similar price range in Madrid city center; however I return to stay at this hostal because of the cleanliness of the place & the friendly staff. I have stayed in the double-room and triple-room before. They were clean, well-ventilated and...

I booked a single room and the bathroom was down the hall. Before I took my shower on the day of my departure, I counted my Euros. I locked the door and took the key with me when I went to the shower. When I returned to the room, 20 Euros were missing! It had to be someone with a...

A small guesthouse on a fourth floor of a residential house right in the city center on Gran Via, handy to all main sites. We had a twin room during our stay with parquet floor and shower en suite. Although shower room was separated from the room itself, its walls didn`t reach up untill ceiling, so it was not very...

San Martin is within 3 minutes walk from Callao metro station. Very central and convenient. However, the room we had was not good. There is a shower cubicle inside the room with see-through panels! My friend and I felt really awkward. We had disrupted sleep because we could hear loud water running noises from next door. Very thin walls. If...

My boyfriend and I stayed in this hostel for 5 nights and were extremely pleased with the location and service provided. Hostal San Martín takes up an entire floor of an apartment block on a street just off Madrid's bustling Gran Vía. Despite its proximity to such a noisy street, however, the actual road on which it is situated (Calle...

Walkable from Callao Metro station. Maybe a little hard to find, in a small side street opposite a cafe and Chinese Restaurant. You can take the tour bus on the Main street. (in front of Burger King) Shopping, museums and restaurants all walkable. Most staff do not speak English but are really nice and friendly, willing to help where possible....

This was the best value hostal that I found in Madrid. The rooms are basic and clean with nice wood floors and they were cleaned daily. The building has an elevator, and the location is very good near Gran Via and the Callao metro station. I was pleased that the hallways and common areas were kept well-lit which is not...

the hostal is very central, value for price, it´s clean, has free internet and the staff are extremely friendly and helpful with everything (we stayed there at the beginning of our exchange semester while looking for a flat in Madrid, and the staff even helped us with finding a flat, reserved a table & ordered food for us at a...

While this Hostal was a little difficult to find, it was exactly what I was looking for. I had a single private room (separate bathroom) for only 40 Euros. The accommodations were basic but very clean. The location can't be beat, it was no more than a 15 minute walk to any major points of interest. What really blew me...

Staying in Malasana

Neighbourhood Profile
Malasana
Hip bars and galleries, independent theaters and music venues, young people with tattoos and funky hair, narrow winding streets — this is Malasaña. Near the center, Plaza Dos de Mayo is a gathering of friends outside bars, dog owners, artists under craft tents, and creative types with notebooks and sketchpads on the plaza’s benches. It may not be as neat and tidy as many other parts of the city, but this only adds to the Malasaña edge. Shops and bars here range from hippie-crunchy to upscale trendy, and on weekends, the streets are bustling around the clock as the nightlife progresses from dinner to bar to disco to late-night food. On the west side of the neighbourhood is the subdistrict called Conde Duque, named after a large pink fort in its center that has been converted into a cultural center for exhibitions and performances. Prettier yet just as edgy, this intimate corner of Malasaña is home to a young international community.
