When I first arrived, I was a little disappointed, coupled with some hard jet lag. Each day learned how relatively cheap the rent for Antigua Posada del Pez is, and started to feel better. It is near EVERYTHING and has all the necessities, and very clean. There was one night, on my return to Madrid, I booked a boutique hotel...

First of all: its a hostel, and not a hotel. It's clean and nice, and has a very attentious staff. If you're a light sleeper, specifically ask for a room NOT facing the street. The noise is beyond imaginable, and we had to change to other room. The first room was really poor (the 208), with a lousy table and...

Nice place, in a narrow street close to Gran Via and most interesting places into the center of the town - 10 minutes on foot to Puerta del Sol - old building, but the room was tidy and clean not very rich breakfast, but it was ok in the evening there's no service but you've got the code to open...

This hotel is down a tiny little street in the center of Madrid. The location is awesome. You can walk to many sites in the center, or if you prefer the metro, there are several lines nearby, only a 5-10 min walk away. There are also tons of hip, cool restaurants nearby to try as well. Once the sun goes...

I agree with many previous reviewers. This was a good, clean, safe hotel that offered basic, but sufficient amenities and services at a very affordable price. Given its relatively central location and proximity to a major metro stop, it was a good base for those wishing to efficiently cover Madrid's many sites/attractions. Positives: larger than anticipated rooms, clean, quiet (at...

Have just returned from a two night stay at Antigua Posada del Pez. My boyfriend and I were very happy with the hotel and the service that we received. The lobby is currently being refurbished but this was not a problem. The staff were polite and we were able to access our room earlier than expected. The room was very...

This place is great. It's dirt cheap, clean and safe. The staff is very helpful and there's a nice breakfast/coffee bar in the lobby. WiFi was a little spotty, but that's okay. It's very convenient to the Malesaña neighborhood - hip, young, fun shopping (kinda the Brooklyn of MAdrid). Convenient to Fuencarral shopping, Parque del Oeste, Metro stops, etc. I...

Considering the price the hotel rooms were nice, clean and the staff very friendly. A great central location, only 5 minutes walk to Gran Via. A good base if all you need from a hotel is a place to rest your head.

Staying in Malasana

Neighbourhood Profile
Hip bars and galleries, independent theaters and music venues, young people with tattoos and funky hair, narrow winding streets — this is Malasaña. Near the center, Plaza Dos de Mayo is a gathering of friends outside bars, dog owners, artists under craft tents, and creative types with notebooks and sketchpads on the plaza’s benches. It may not be as neat and tidy as many other parts of the city, but this only adds to the Malasaña edge. Shops and bars here range from hippie-crunchy to upscale trendy, and on weekends, the streets are bustling around the clock as the nightlife progresses from dinner to bar to disco to late-night food. On the west side of the neighbourhood is the subdistrict called Conde Duque, named after a large pink fort in its center that has been converted into a cultural center for exhibitions and performances. Prettier yet just as edgy, this intimate corner of Malasaña is home to a young international community.

“Get a room facing the back courtyard. MUCH quieter!”
  • Bathroom was plain but modern and a good size
  • Nice view of the rooftops across the courtyard in the back of the building
  • The 2nd room we got was 3x the size of the first room
