This is a delightful place to stay; Olga, the Russian host, is even more delightful; as is her little daughter! Cóll is a tiny village off the beaten track but close to everything one would want to do in the Val de Boí, which, unlike some other places in the valley, retains its old charm and character. Cóll features one of the area's World Heritage Romanesque churches which, unfortunately, is closed as the renovation has yet to be completed; however Olga can arrange for access (very worthwhile!). There are also hiking trails above the village, including a short walk up to a cross from which there is a great view of the village. This is the sort of village where most of the home owners live elsewhere but return in the summer or on special occasions. In the summer the kids are out in the evening playing hide and seek, while the adults sit out on their terraces to enjoy a drink and chat with each other - I was kindly invited to join some of them and spent a very pleasant hour chatting. With advance warning Olga can prepare a delicious dinner of local products. However, if you haven't forewarned her, go to El Ventador, about 10 minutes away in Barruera, for some creative and excellent food (we spent two nights, eating out the first and at the hotel the second). Our room was excellent, with a balcony and view of the church. We would definitely love to go back and spend more time there.…
We really enjoyed our stay. The hotel is in a tiny hamlet in the hills 5 minutes off the main road. Our room looked straight on to a romanesque church, and to the hills on the other side o the valley. Rooms are simply furnished, but clean, and with balcony. The food was magnificent. I would thoroughly recommend anyone staying to eat there in the evenings. Good value, and very enjoyable. Our needs (veggie) were catered for very well.
If you are looking for a base for exploring the Val de Boi away from the bustling and rambunctious crowd this is the right place. Located in a tiny village a few hundred meters above the valley, this is the ultimate in peace and quiet. Sit out on the Plaza in the evening and listen to the trees grow. All important places in the Val can be reached in less than 30 mins by car. In spite of its remoteness, you will not want food or drink. Many guests seem to eat outside the hotel - big mistake. The hotel has an excellent chef. Dinner consisted of 3 courses and each course had 3 choices. The wine list is definitely worth exploring and the bar well stocked. Mind you this is a one star hotel, so not everything is perfect. Definitely worth the money.
This hotel is exactly the experience we wanted driving through the Pyrenees. Friendly and helpful hosts, a nice room with a view of the mountains, and really excellent local food. Some might consider this location too quiet in the summer, but this tiny village is a lovely stop for hiking, relaxing, sampling authentic local Catalan food, or visiting the nearby Roman architecture.
