This aparthotel is in an amazing location very close to Girona cathedral. The beautifully restored building has amazing views out over the town.
It was exceptionally quiet (apart from the church and cathedral bells) and was the perfect place to unwind and relax. Very close to some excellent restaurants and cafés. The check in was very efficient.
The only disappointment was that the room wasn't serviced on one of the days we stayed. Other than that it would have rated 5 stars.

We stumbled across this hotel while looking for somewhere to stay in Northern Spain and we are so happy we did. The building itself is linked to the 4th century roman wall and has been sympathetically renovated to a great standard. Its situated at the top of the old town and surrounded by convents and university buildings so in the evenings it is very very quiet but its just a 5 minute walk to the center of the old town with all its amenities. Upon arrival Eric was there the check us in and talk us through the history of the building and the area which was great. He offered recommendations for local restaurants, bars, activities and day trips which was all really helpful and he continued to help us out through the rest of our visit with taxis and travel etc. The honesty bar is also a great little touch with a selection of soft drinks, beer and food for no extra charge. Girona itself is fantastic with its tight maze of streets offering a fantastic selection of great restaurants and bars along with shops and plenty of things to do. Its also only 40mins from Barcelona on the high speed train which was very reliable and comfortable rather than the packed commuter train i was expecting at 7:30 in the morning! I would absolutely recommend this hotel for anyone looking to spend some time in Girona or looking for a base to explore the wider Catalan region.

I agree with a previous reviewer, I would love to give this place 1 star to stop it being popular for my own selfish reasons. Unfortunately, I could not do that as this place was just perfect. Firstly, to cover a another previous review, this is not a 24 hour manned reception hotel. It is more like self catering apartments with housekeeping so if you are looking for a normal description of an hotel, this is not for you! However, you will be missing out on a great experience. We were met by Eric at the door. It is best contacting him to provide arrival details as the reception is not manned. After checking in, we were taken up in the lift which takes you straight into your apartment. This can only be done because your key is your security code. We loved this aspect and never got bored or used to it. Eric gave us a tour of the very spacious apartment and provided enough information for our stay. We thought the way the renovations were done were so creative and obviously we had to sit at each love seat in the apartment. Well you have to! The whole place was so comfortable, we were nit worried if we had bad weather as we had everything we needed. The views of the wall and the old town were spectacular. The place was so quiet, we had uninterrupted sleep every night. Loved the honesty bar where you could help yourself to coffee, cold drinks and alcohol. There is a washing machine, which is handy if you are coming from another leg of your trip. However, we did not use it as we could. It find where to hang the washing. To be honest, we could have stayed here for weeks.

This place is truly a gem. Great service, excellent amenities (free washer!), and large room. It is at the top of Girona but well worth the walk up and down the hills. The owner has phenomenal recommendations and is very accommodating.

It's tempting to write a poor review here to make sure this place doesn't get too busy :)

We arrived on Monday at 7.00pm and Eric was there to meet us, give us a tour of the facilities and show us our room. He knows a huge amount about this property and the city so it's really handy to get an overview before you hit the streets.

We were in Els Festejadors which is on the middle floor of three. A lift from the lobby takes you straight to your suite. Our suite was amazing. A well equipped kitchen if you want to get some supplies and eat in your room, a lovely bathroom, a huge lounge area with a table and chairs overlooking the courtyard and a beautiful bedroom make up the suite. What they've done here is very clever. You have all the historic structure of the building mixed with modern features. They've not tried to hide anything or make it look old/original. So you have beautiful stone walls but quite industrial looking fittings like light switches and it really works.

Location-wise, this is at the top of the old part of the town very close to the cathedral so you're completely immersed in the history and architecture for all of your stay.

All in all, this was a totally relaxing break in a beautiful building with a host that gives you the best opportunity to make the most of your visit with his knowledge of the building and the city.

The only thing I would mention to others is that you need to remember that there's a lot of steps, cobbled streets and hills to get down to the town and back up again.

My wife and I heartily and readily recommend this place. We stated in the El Tinell room which is very large with epic vaulted ceilings, medieval walls and yet modern accoutrements. Its very well located in the old part of Girona which is definitely where you would want to stay as a tourist. Girona itself is a fantastic destination. Eric from the hotel met us when we arrived, gave us a tour and helped us with everything we needed including taxi arrangement, lunch recommendations and parking instructions - just FYI old town Girona was built before cars ;)

This was truly a beautiful suite in the heart of the old city. The history surrounding the building was remarkable and truly impressive. The accommodations were very comfortable and much attention to detail was quite evident.
The location was excellent and the proximity to historic sites unbeatable. My only complaint was the hotel staff. While Eric was present upon checkin and offered valuable information regarding local sites, restaurants and day trips, he disappeared for the remainder of our 3 night stay. I requested help with parking a rental car in a legal safe location close to hotel but was given only the name of a street and then basically ignored. On the morning of check out, Eric was no where to be found and multiple attempts to reach him on his cell were unsuccessful as well. We needed to get a taxi to get to the station and was forced to locate one on my own with a language barrier. Fortunately, it worked and we arrived at the station on time. I left my room key on front desk and saw no one in hotel to assist in check out process which is the first time in my 40 plus years of world travel that that has ever happened. It's a shame that a beautiful experience here in Girona was marred by this level of customer service.

I loved everything about this place. Eric manages his family's property and is a charming host who will make you feel immediately welcome. His knowledge of Girona - this history, food, etc. is a great intro to the city. He also provides fabulous recommendations for restaurants!

The location of AS Palau couldn't be better. Though it is close to everything you will want to see in the old town, it is situated on on a quiet back street. I will say it is a bit difficult to find and if you have a car you will need to park a little ways away.

The rooms were beautiful and very large! It had a nice kitchen and sitting area - everything you need for a perfect stay. There is also a special little bar/communal area in the lobby for guests to mingle.

The only bad part was having only booked one night - I would have loved to stay another and will definitely be back!

I would highly recommend a stop in Girona if only to stay at AS Palau dels Alemanys!

Fantastic environment, wonderful service, incredible location. I would go out of my way to travel to Girona just to stay here again! Wonderful restaurants nearby - was there on Easter weekend, so was able to see the ceremonies at the cathedral; great experience.

When we arrived at AS Palau dels Alemanys in August, it turned out that we were the hotels first guests and the only guests that week. Eric and his family had just finished renovating this medieval building. It was beautiful with it's ancient architecture but modern amenities. First and foremost, Eric is the ultimate host. He is so charming, helpful, polite and humble. He went out of his way to make us feel comfortable and really made us feel special. Our apartment (El Badiu) was on the top floor. Our family of 3 felt very comfortable. My husband and I shared the king bed. My son (12 years old) had a rollaway. Robes and slippers were provided. This apartment had the most amazing view of the city, the old city wall, cathedral, and university. I highly recommend this room as I believe the other 3 apartments only overlook the courtyard. The apartment was well equipped and stocked. The items in the mini fridge did not cost extra and included beer, wine, soft drinks, juice, and cookies. Espresso pods and tea were also available. Items were also restocked upon request. We had access to the washer and dryer. Detergent was provided. We enjoyed our quiet evenings in the courtyard. The hotel is located by all the sights, the city center, and restaurants. We felt very lucky to have found this special place. Eric and his hotel made our visit to Girona one of the best experiences we ever had. Thank you for a wonderful visit.
