The only let-down was the attitude of the breakfast staff; a full 30mins before end of service and there was almost no hot food. We were told that it would be replenished in 5mins. Nothing happened, no apology and service was tidied away with an indifferent attitude. Shame given that everyone else was so helpful and friendly and would have scored higher.
Arrived to check in for a two night stay. Had booked a superior with Terrace as we had a baby so we paid extra to have a terrace area we could relax on when baby went to bed at 7pm.
At check in we were given room 303. Went to room and it was clearly a double (in fact exactly same room as displayed on their website under ‘double Ultonia’.)
Receptionist said the room they had allocated was a superior with terrace. I queried that it didn’t have a terrace (just a small Juliette balcony which couldn’t even fit a chair on) and she said the Juliette balcony was classed as a Terrace. Impossible. I showed the receptionist photos on their website which proved that the room we were in was classed as a double. The receptionist went behind the reception area to speak to her manager (I can only assume) and then came back to me and shrugged her shoulders and said ‘i don’t have a superior terrace available, I can cancel your reservation if you like.’
I asked to speak to the manager and she went back behind the desk, spoke to the manager, returned looking incredibly sheepish, and said the only thing they could do was to move us to a superior terrace for the second night. This immediately made it obvious I was being lied to, as previously I had been told I was staying in a superior terrace. (Obviously not true and I can’t believe she had the audacity to try and tell me the double was a terrace when I had the photos right in front of her on my phone).
I explained I wish they had just been honest with me that they had messed up our booking, and we’d accept the double for the first night on the basis we would get the superior terrace for the second night.
So, we went up to our double room to get changed and while we were in there I checked on Expedia to see if I could book a superior with terrace as I knew I was being lied to, and low and behold they had availability for that night and the next. I then went to reception and said I’d like to take up their offer to cancel the booking, and I will rebook a superior terrace via Expedia (I originally booked directly via their website to save them the commission fee) for our two night stay, including that night. In a panic, the receptionist got very flustered and miraculously had a superior terrace suite ready on the spot and available for our whole stay.
So, after a four hour battle which ate into our day and stopped us from enjoying our break we did get the room we had paid for. The superior terrace has a very large terrace on the 7th floor, so absolutely don’t let these people rip you off. They obviously keep the more expensive terrace suites for late bookings to get more money. Seems like a well oiled machine in scamming people on room grades (and even heard others complaining to reception while we were there) so I would recommend avoiding this place at all costs.
The Bad: Room 510 (been mentioned in other reviews) noisy - we asked for a quiet room, it is near the lifts and the roof terrace stays open until 1am when noisy guests descend and it is dingy with very little natural light. All this for 130 euros per night.
The Ugly: After the first night we complained about the room, got a perfunctory grunt and told we could pay an extra 20 euros for a room they couldn't show us or tell us where it was!
Do NOT accept room 510!
Hotel location within Girona good.
BUT
Rude receptionist greeting. Would only speak Spanish to my Catalan speaking partner, we are in Catalonia!
Expecting a room with a view of the old town of Girona and what do we get a room on 2nd floor looking into a dismal courtyard with building work taking place in corner.
Requested move and told not possible.
We are sure this was not what we booked as there are 2 hotels within the grouping!!!
Had decided to take the "special" New Years Eve dinner.
Expected good fine dining, got nothing better than my own capabilities even allowing for numbers of 200 possibly.
Cava was awful, food was minimal in portion size.
No non alcoholic cocktails or beer available.
Nothing short of a miserable New Years Eve.
Will not be back.

"This place is close to most tourist points but don't expect good service. Basic rooms and the terrace is nice to have a drink and enjoy the views. "Read full review
