This hotel is amazing, we loved the how cool and chic it was! It was in a great location which felt very hipster and also felt like hotel straight out of Shoreditch i.e. Ace Hotel! Staff were really friendly and helpful and offered great service! They had a great knowledge of Barcelona and gave great tips on where to go....

We were very pleased with Chic & Basic Hotel during our first ever trip to Barcelona. The room design is very untraditional. But, that added to this property's charm. Room exceeded my expectations. The room was clean and fairly large for European standards. I thought the mood lighting would be a gimic but we actually enjoyed using it! The staff...

Loved everything, the building is fantastic, the community area, breakfast and location. I always stay here when I go to BCN. The location is perfect - close to everything. I use to go for a rum in the Ciutadella park!

There was a confusion with our reservation when we arrived, it was about our breakfast. We were told it was fixed but then we had to explain it again to another staff before we left to settle our bill. Obviously, there's no proper communication or handover. Also, the corridor can be quite noisy during the night. I can also hear...

This hotel is in a great location, the staff are very friendly and helpful and the rooms look exactly as advertised. Funky, clean and basic. Really appreciated the free coffee, tea, bottled water and biscuits. Our room overlooked the street and was quite noisy but we had ear plugs so it didn't bother us. Rooms on the other side of...

It is more like Hostel with quirky design. Not recomended for family as Shower is visible glass enclosure. There are mosquitoes and air conditioning not functioning well. Location is good , staff friendly , car park is underground and secured . For the price there are better options

"Listen to the funky music" I am a seasoned traveller having stayed in some the best hotels all over the world in my 30 year career in International I/T sales. Now retired (at 60) I booked this hotel as it seemed so quirky and different. I was not disappointed.. It is in an amazing location within the Gothic quarter just...

The staff was friendly and a great location in the El Born neighborhood with narrow streets and people sitting in cafes. The bath was uncomfortably to use; the colorful lighting and hanging beads at each door and the bath/bedroom are just annoying. I think time for a redo of interior. I did not like that the balcony door which opens...

I really liked this place. The styling is very funky, with a clever mix of the traditional building with period features and ultra modern ideas like glass and chrome showers in the middle of the room! Our room on the front was a little noisy with street sounds but it's not the busiest area, so not the end of the...

Staying in El Born / La Ribera

Neighbourhood Profile
El Born / La Ribera
The labyrinth that is El Born becomes most apparent the moment you turn down one of its side streets. But this is one of the few labyrinths you might actually enjoy losing your way in. After all, there are few places that live and breathe such exciting energy regardless of the time of day. This neighbourhood seamlessly transcends the old and new parts of the city, reflected in its vast array of restaurants ranging from fancy Michelin-star establishments to trendy fusion restaurants. Here you'll find historical and cultural attractions such as the popular Picasso Museum and the Gothic cathedral La Santa Maria del Mar, where you just might be able to catch a traditional Catalan wedding.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
A hotel that combines the traditional with the futuristic in a privileged environment: a building that is more than 100 years old with spectacular ceilings over seven metres high and spaces designed to surprise and enjoy. Its rooms, with an original glass shower in the room, are chameleon-like: you can change the colour depending on your mood. The passageways, full of enchantment and mystery, mutate with colour changes from the lights in the rooms. Enjoy our “Beyourself” and “Helpyourself” area in the common area where you can relax listening to music, reading any of our books or having a coffe, tea or water for free. Also, if you want to move about the city at your own pace, bicycles are available to rent. Once you try them, you won’t want to use any other transport in Barcelona. You can also enjoy our chic&basic tour, a two hour walk through Ciutat Vella in which we will mix history with some curiosities, as well as gastronomic and nightlife suggestions. Enjoy it on Tuesdays, Thursdays or Saturdays at 10:00am. ... more   less
