Loved the 1898. Room was very spacious and very quiet given how busy the street is. The rooftop pool and lounge area were beautiful and a great little escape from touring the city all day. We had cava and tapas our first night and thought the food and service was great. Also the pool, spa, sauna and steam room downstairs...

The hotel is in a great location. You can walk out the door and you are typically within walking distance (1 mile or less) to most tourist destinations. The metro stop is also very close too. The hotel is very nice inside. The lobby is spacious with stylish decor and lots of comfortable seating. The bar is also nice. There...

My wife and I really enjoyed staying at this hotel. They were able to check us in early (10:30am). The location couldn't have been better (next to two metro stations) and RIGHT on Las Ramblas. They have an amazing bar/pool on the rooftop and also an indoor pool. Complimentary Wifi was so important to us being overseas without a phone....

Positives: For a cosmopolitan, city centre hotel this is excellent. I was taken here by surprise by my boyfriend for my birthday over the may bank holiday and I was very impressed on arrival. The decor is lovely throughout the whole hotel. The room was immaculate, nicely decorated and had the biggest bed I've ever seen! So big we actually...

We stayed in Hotel 1898 toward the end of May 2013, and we were very happy with our choice of staying here. This was the first time that my wife and I were traveling with our 7 month son. Immediately upon our arrival, the receptionist checked our reservation and noted we did not have a cot for our son. She...

Loved the service, turn down service at night and replaced everything daily- one thing is they didn't have an iron which is annoying when traveling. The Hotel has an amazing roof top bar with a small pool and an additional pool in the basement which is great for night time. The location is great but it's quite noisy if I...

Travelled in late April and has terrible weather.Lovely 5* hotel just off La Ramblas. Fabulous location in walking distance of many sites and restaurants. Roof terrace extensive and comfortable with bar and loungers and excellent views of the City. Small heated swimming pool with towels. Shame weather was awful during our stay as we couldn't use this facility. Spa was...

This hotel is beautiful and is right in the middle of it all. The gothic quarter is straight across from Las Ramblas street. Everything is in walking distance and walking is what you will want to do in Barcelona. The hotel itself is a 5 star and is very comfortable. It has a roof top pool and bar area and...

We arrived at the Hotel and were shown to our room straight away. We were allocated room 505 which whilst not the largest hotel room I have been in was adequate for our purposes and had a fantastic large bathroom with a large opening window, a large bath with a rainfall shower over which was really powerful. There was also...

Staying in El Raval

Neighbourhood Profile
El Raval
Once a downtrodden corner of downtown Barcelona, this gritty area has seen a cultural resurgence boasting an excellent nightlife and one of the most multi ethnic spots in the entire city. A sense of humble authenticity protrudes from the many independent record stores, second hand shops, and student bars that seem to light up the streets day and night. The rocking epicenter, the MACBA Plaça, is a modern day forum for bohemian youth, abuzz with the sights and sounds of late-night gatherings and talented skateboarders showing off their latest tricks.
