We enjoyed the location of the hotel and found it clean and well appointed. Unhappy to see them take a photocopy of my credit card upon checkin. It's unprofessional. Staff told me it was a normal practice and that I had to accept it. Quite insane. Didn't feel like spoiling the mood so didn't bother.

Hotel 1898 was an absolute oasis from the busy streets of Barcelona. My husband and I stayed for 4 nights and would recommend this hotel for the following reasons: - Central location on La Rambla. The hotel is within walking access to many tourist sites, restaurants (highly recommend Sagarra behind hotel), bars, a grocery store (Carrefour), and even a Starbucks... More

We booked two nights at the Hotel 1898 at the very end of our two week trip to Spain, thinking it would be nice to end our trip relaxing in style, and this place did not disappoint! The location is incredible- right on Las Ramblas, less than a block to the Boqueria market and several subway stops. We had a... More

One of the best hotels worldwide for understated elegance and service. The staff were always available but not noticeable, smooth and efficient. Bed fantastic. The reported noise from the underground was maybe a small distant rumble like far away thunder, nothing to write home about. Lovely location in the middle of Ramblas. A must for those who appreciate quality.

Stopped here for drinks on the rooftop terrace. We were the only people up there but the weather had turned and it was later on in the day. We think when the sun is shining the place would be a great atmosphere! Super views over the city. Definitely worth it and would go back.

Stayed here on a weekend away. Chose it due to its proximity to Las Ramblas. It was brilliant in that the street itself is so busy etc...and then step off into side street and enter the hotel to a calmer existence. The hotel is lovely and our bedroom was a decent size. Nice enough decor. Decent enough breakfast also that... More

This Hotel has a great location, great facilities and great staff. Upon arrival check in was smooth and easy, being a Expedia VIP member i was promptly upgraded to a superior room. The location being right on la Rambla is perfect for dining options and shopping. The facilities are second to none in regard to the spa and gym facilities.

The rooms are adequate but the food and beverage is below acceptable. The staff is semi-cordial but a little difficult at times. Getting a taxi to the airport was a challenge and ended up putting 10lbs of stuff in a 5lb bag. Will tray somewhere different next trip. Also miscellaneous items are very expensive.

Staying in El Raval

Neighbourhood Profile
El Raval
Once a downtrodden corner of downtown Barcelona, this gritty area has seen a cultural resurgence boasting an excellent nightlife and one of the most multi ethnic spots in the entire city. A sense of humble authenticity protrudes from the many independent record stores, second hand shops, and student bars that seem to light up the streets day and night. The rocking epicenter, the MACBA Plaça, is a modern day forum for bohemian youth, abuzz with the sights and sounds of late-night gatherings and talented skateboarders showing off their latest tricks.
