Initially given a room at the front of the hotel (room 308) and was awake every hour - road noise, sirens, vibration of underground train ! Managed to get transferred to a room at the back of the hotel - instant improvement. Having been used to the noise of London, I didn't think this would be an issue but the...

Many thanks you having taken your time a review about your stay at Hotel Barcelona Universal. We are happy to read that you found our staff very helpful. Regarding the rooms, there are guests who prefer rooms facing the back of the hotel because they are certainly quieter. On the other hand, other guests prefer rooms facing the main street...

This is a very nice hotel located right next to the Metro stop. The only downside is that its about a 10 minute walk to Las Ramblas - but it isn't that big of a deal. The roof terrace is also nice and provides a good view. We got it at a good price so that definitely made the stay...

I had booked a twin room at the Universal Barcelona for 4 nights. I had requested a higher floor and this was accommodated. The hotel was only 15 mins from the airport and very central only a few minutes from La Rambla and the Columbus statue. The metro and funicular to Montjuic was outside the hotel door. The hotel and...

I was in Barcelona for 4 days and stayed at this hotel, we had a standard room which was very modern. The hotels clean and the staff are very friendly, the rooftop pool looked fantastic but I didn't venture in during this stay. If I was in Barcelona again I would defiantly consider staying here again. The only down side...

Thank you very much for spending time and writing your opinion. On behalf of our staff we appreciate your words; to us they are helpful and allow us to assess both: quality of our facilities and the service we want to offer to our customers. Thanks again and we hope to see you soon among us.

This hotel is conveniently located right beside a metro station which will take you to the very center of Barcelona within 2-3 stops. It is also about 15 minutes walking distance to the Ramblas so the metro is not even necessary if you're going in that direction. In other words the location is very, very convenient. The rooms are quite...

I shared a twin room with a friend for 5 nights. The rooms are modern, extremely spacious and clean with comfortable beds. The hotel is about a 10 minute walk to La Rambla. The staff were not particularly friendly, but they were polite and efficient. We did find the hotel room to be quite noisy and could clearly how our...

Had a 3 night stay recently and used the hotel as a base for our first trip to Barcelona. Service and room we received were first class. Room being on the quieter side of the hotel. Chose to eat outside the hotel due to huge selection in Barcelona so it's not fair to pass any judgement However when we return...

Plusses: Good standard, breakfast and very good service, excellent pool/relaxation area on the roof, really close to metro station and walking distance to La Rambla. Minuses: Rooms could be bigger, not so nice neighbourhood.

Staying in El Raval

Neighbourhood Profile
El Raval
Once a downtrodden corner of downtown Barcelona, this gritty area has seen a cultural resurgence boasting an excellent nightlife and one of the most multi ethnic spots in the entire city. A sense of humble authenticity protrudes from the many independent record stores, second hand shops, and student bars that seem to light up the streets day and night. The rocking epicenter, the MACBA Plaça, is a modern day forum for bohemian youth, abuzz with the sights and sounds of late-night gatherings and talented skateboarders showing off their latest tricks.
