Stayed here for 2 nights in a room facing the back of the hotel. The room was very clean, the bathroom modern and both were spacious. Location was ok, 15 minutes walk from the waterfront and about 10 to La Rambla. Breakfast was typical continental, nothing overly great or bad about it.

We spent 2nights at the universal recently and were impressed by the friendliness of the staff, comfort of the rooms and location. We were given great ideas for places to visit and restaurants to try on arrival. I would definitely stay there again.

Just returned from 3 night stay, at the Univiversal for our 35th wedding anniversary. The location is great, metro stop just outside the hotel and Las Ramblas within easy walking distance. The room on the 7th floor at the front of the hotel was of a good size, very comfortable and clean and we felt not too noisy considering its...

Thank you for your review! Thank you for your nice comments about the cleanliness of our facilities and the helpfulness of our staff. We always recommend our clients to come to the reception and ask for suggestions about bars and restaurants to avoid these situations described. The bar you describe is not in the list of the ones we recommend....

My family (2Adults and 2Teenagers) stayed at this hotel for three nights last week at the recommendation of our friends who stayed at this hotel last summer. The manager Mr. Pablo Perez personally arranged our reservations and allotted us adjoining rooms on the executive floor where we had access to the business lounge and even had a private balcony overlooking...

We're just back after a couple of nights at the Universal again. As usual, the Reception staff were amazing - their linguistic ability is phenomenal. They are always polite and helpful and full of local knowledge. They'll book anything for you or make enquiries if that will help. The room was deliciously comfortable with luxury sheets and pillows. We asked...

Thank you for your comments, especially the ones about our front desk staff. For us it is very important to give a good service at the front desk.

We stayed in this hotel as a four day pre cruise and couldn't have chosen a nicer Hotel. The Location was great as you were within easy walking distance from the Las Ramblas and the HoHo bus stop. The room was on the top floor and of an exceptional size with a very large bathroom and a large sitting room....

Thank you for your comments. We are glad to know that you enjoyed your stay in our hotel, specially when you write about tho location and the good size of our rooms. Regarding your comments about the gym , we do want to explain that this area is not pretended to be a professional gym.

After reading many reviews we plumped for this hotel and to be fair we couldn't fault it. Fantastic location, 5 mins walk round the corner to Las Ramblas and directly on a metro station. The hotel was functional, clean, yes the street outside can be noisy but thats the way central Barcelona is, there are even street signs asking people...

My family spent four nights here in two rooms on the fifth floor. This was a great hotel for us. Special mention must be made of the beds, which were the biggest and most comfortable we had slept on. To help even further, the rooms were very quiet and the air con very good. The rooms were smart, clean, well...

We just stayed in this centrally located, clean, sleek hotel. Free Internet (that is actually high speed) with all amenities including a rooftop pool. Rooms facing onto the wide boulevard are not sound proof (as claimed in the brochures). Near Ramblas and the port. Space for luggage and safes for valuables are abundantly available for early check ins whose rooms...

We thought this was a great hotel, and we would return (as long as we included breakfast). The staff were friendly and helpful. The Metro station was just outside, so travel was excellent. The good-sized room was clean and tastefully decorated. I loved that the window in the bathroom would open wide, and spent ages watching swallows(?) swooping past. The...

Staying in El Raval

Neighbourhood Profile
El Raval
Once a downtrodden corner of downtown Barcelona, this gritty area has seen a cultural resurgence boasting an excellent nightlife and one of the most multi ethnic spots in the entire city. A sense of humble authenticity protrudes from the many independent record stores, second hand shops, and student bars that seem to light up the streets day and night. The rocking epicenter, the MACBA Plaça, is a modern day forum for bohemian youth, abuzz with the sights and sounds of late-night gatherings and talented skateboarders showing off their latest tricks.
