I shared a triple room which was large, very clean, comfortable with a good bathroom - if there are 3 of you visiting this is a really good idea - not easily come by. All the staff were pleasant and helpful, breakfast was good and the location was handy for Las Ramblas, the harbour and main sites. I would definitely...

My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights for an anniversary break; we had visited the city previously for a day trip and had chosen to return so that we could explore properly. The hotel is in a perfect location, the metro line directly outside, ten minutes walk to La Ramblas one way and 15 minutes walk to Playa...

My boyfriend and I spent 3 nights here. The reception staff were friendly and helpful with directions and restaurant recommendations. The room and hotel in general was very clean and smart looking. Rooftop pool - lovely! We spent a couple of hours on the roof each day on the sun loungers and pool. There is a bar up there but...

My wife and I had our first European hotel experience here at Hotel Universal. We have been told that European hotels are a lot smaller than back home in Australia. We were pleasantly surprised, a great room and size with all the amenities. Rooms were clean and bed was nice and comfortable. All staff accommodating, and the location is perfect,...

The hotel has great facilities, everything we needed for our week stay. The location is ideal for exploring the city both on foot or via the metro. The station is directly outside & both the harbour & Las Ramblas are both just a short walk away. The staff were helpful when asked but not overtly friendly compared with other hotels...

Stayed 3 nights on business, both on the 1st floor and 4th floor. The rooms are extremely noisy--on the 4th floor, I could hear next door neighbors sneeze and walk around. On the 1st floor, it was like sleeping on a busy street. The kitchen is next door, but it feels like it's inside your room. Do NOT stay in...

Overall I think most reviews of this hotel are very fair ,the room was exceptionally clean the location very good although one or two streets between the hotel and las ramblas I would be cautious about but no problems. The metro station right outside is handy although most places walkable I found the hotel very good overall the only negative...

A great hotel indeed. Beautiful roof terrace, but the view on back of the hotel was a bit run down and slummy. Would stay here again. We stayed in a room on the 6th floor and I am not sure if this was an upgrade or not as we had booked one of the corner rooms but it was a...

We have just returned from a wonderful stay at the Universal hotel. We stayed in a room on the 9th floor (903) and I am not sure if this was an upgrade or not as we had booked one of the corner rooms but it was a fantastic room with a large balcony to sit out on, the room was...

Location wise its ideal, very close to theatres and situated right beside the Metro station of Paral•lel which has the Green (L3) and Purple (L2) lines. You can also take the Funicular de Montjuïc up to Montjuic. Our room was on the second floor not far from the elevator. (219 I think it was) I was shocked by the amount...

Staying in El Raval

Neighbourhood Profile
El Raval
Once a downtrodden corner of downtown Barcelona, this gritty area has seen a cultural resurgence boasting an excellent nightlife and one of the most multi ethnic spots in the entire city. A sense of humble authenticity protrudes from the many independent record stores, second hand shops, and student bars that seem to light up the streets day and night. The rocking epicenter, the MACBA Plaça, is a modern day forum for bohemian youth, abuzz with the sights and sounds of late-night gatherings and talented skateboarders showing off their latest tricks.
