The Hotel is situated just off Las Ramblas which puts you in a very good position for getting to Restaurants and cultural sites. The hotel is a mixture of old and new and is very quirky - the art and architecture of the building are really interesting and fun. The room was clean, modern, AC was nice and quiet unlike...

Myself and my husband stayed at Hotel Espana for 5 nights in June/July to celebrate his birthday. I wanted a hotel that was central, had modern features / but traditional, and an outdoor pool. This hotel seemed to tick all the boxes, and we were not disappointed. The location was perfect - just off La Ramblas so very central for...

Location is perfect - by La Ramblas and La Boquiera (if I've spelt it right!) and close to all amenities. The staff are very pleasant and extremely helpful and the hotel is on the right side of quirky. Don't expect a view - I looked out onto and into the rooms of squashed apartments and felt almost intrusive in doing...

Our first time to Barcelona,This hotel is in a great location, set down a single car lane, and close to main centre of town everything is at your finger tips. When you walk in the main doors the beauty of the interior hits you, this is a very well renovated hotel, keeping a lot of its original history and decor, yet maintains a very high...

the hotel is just centre of Rambla area, very close to main street, but it is quiet, building is very historic, therefore makes the room a little bit small, and sounds proof is not very vell you can easily hear the voice from the path and downstairs. good staff and good breakfast.

Just got back from a 4 night stay at Hotel Espana and had a fantastic time. Location is excellent just off Las Ramblas so close to the action but away from the hustle. Close to the beach too it was only a 15-20 minute walk or so. Beautiful decoration, very modern and clean but with unique twist which I preferred...

I stayed at Hotel Espana for 4 nights in June. It is a 4**** hotel in a great location, sited about half way down Les Ramblas a few metres down a side street away from the hustle & bustle. We stayed in a boutique room which was an adequate size with good quality fittings. The room was very clean and...

It doesn't look like much from the outside. The entrance is in a lane just off the main la ramblas street. It's easy to find and cabs can go right to the doorstep. Convenient as it is near ramblas. Metros are nearby and near plaza Catalunya. Inside it is just beautiful, mordern and classy furnishings without losing the Catalonian roots....

I stayed at the hotel for three nights. The staff was very friendly and charitable. I'd like to stay at the same hotel next time. Hotel Espana is in the same street with the opera house Liceu, this is another advantage of this hotel.

Reasonable rooms, good bathroom facilities, can be noisy at night. Restaurant service somewhat intermittent - ditto the indoor bar. Roof bar good when weather permits. But location makes up for everything.

Staying in El Raval

Neighbourhood Profile
El Raval
Once a downtrodden corner of downtown Barcelona, this gritty area has seen a cultural resurgence boasting an excellent nightlife and one of the most multi ethnic spots in the entire city. A sense of humble authenticity protrudes from the many independent record stores, second hand shops, and student bars that seem to light up the streets day and night. The rocking epicenter, the MACBA Plaça, is a modern day forum for bohemian youth, abuzz with the sights and sounds of late-night gatherings and talented skateboarders showing off their latest tricks.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The 4 Star Superior Hotel Espana is located in the heart of Barcelona's historic centre, adjacent to La Rambla, the Gran Teatre del Liceu and the Gothic Quarter. Opened in 1859, it was later renovated by the celebrated modernist architect Lluis Domenech i Montaner. The hotel has always been considered a little gem of Barcelona modernism. Completely renovated in 2010, it combines modern interior design with the classicism of a nineteenth century building. The hotel's restaurant service is under the management of the chef Martin Berasategui. ... more   less
