Great, sleek hotel off of Las Ramblas. Wonderful location, nice decor, great breakfasts. A great base for seeing Barcelona. At the end of the day, you can sit down in the middle of Las Ramblas and order a Sangria and watch the tourists walk by!

The room was nice unfortunately we had to move due to a blocked shower, second room had issues with the lights, they made such a noise that we had to unplug the power so we could sleep, the room was even smaller than the one we originally booked. There was no proper recognition of the issue, no one made a...

The location is as good as you could ask for, the hotel is very nice, and the price is great. The rooms are a little on the small side, but they're not cramped in the least. The staff was amazing! We arrived 8+ hours early and they did everything they could to help out. We needed 3 rooms, we were...

Jordie is fabulous. Very helpful and courteous. The girl at reception (sorry I don't remember her name) was interested in our half marathon (and had remembered). If I was to go back to Barcelona I wouldn't even look for another hotel. Location is perfect- has others have said- just off Las Ramblas and near a metro station. Lovely looking hotel,...

On top floor. Nice big room and bathroom. I've stayed in other rooms, which are well appointed. Don't understand complaints about lack of external windows. All rooms have windows, some look out into courtyards or light shafts. Big bath, shower for 4. Arnau bar serves huge Gin & Tonic. Breakfast was good. The decor of the breakfast room is amazing....

We're a same sex couple and found the staff to be very warm and welcoming. They were good with English for the moments when we struggled with Spanish. Lovely, helpful concierge and clean, modern room. Huge shower head, high-end complimentary toiletries, super comfy king bed and an exceptional buffet. Located 15 metres from La Rambla. The hotel itself is an...

After getting lost from getting the wrong train from the airport, asking several people for directions and walking around with no idea where we was going, we finally arrived at Hotel Espana, and it did not let us down!! The hotel is spotless, so clean and very trendy. The reception staff were extremely friendly and couldn't do more for you....

Staying in El Raval

Neighbourhood Profile
El Raval
Once a downtrodden corner of downtown Barcelona, this gritty area has seen a cultural resurgence boasting an excellent nightlife and one of the most multi ethnic spots in the entire city. A sense of humble authenticity protrudes from the many independent record stores, second hand shops, and student bars that seem to light up the streets day and night. The rocking epicenter, the MACBA Plaça, is a modern day forum for bohemian youth, abuzz with the sights and sounds of late-night gatherings and talented skateboarders showing off their latest tricks.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The 4 Star Superior Hotel Espana is located in the heart of Barcelona's historic centre, adjacent to La Rambla, the Gran Teatre del Liceu and the Gothic Quarter. Opened in 1859, it was later renovated by the celebrated modernist architect Lluis Domenech i Montaner. The hotel has always been considered a little gem of Barcelona modernism. Completely renovated in 2010, it combines modern interior design with the classicism of a nineteenth century building. The hotel's restaurant service is under the management of the chef Martin Berasategui. ... more   less
