The hotel has modern design and cozy atmosphere. All implemented materials are highest possible quality and create really luxury feeling. The restaurants are "famoso" The staff is professional. The view is wonderful. The location is a bit far from San Sebastian. A place to return
An amazing feat of mountainside construction complements 3-star dining at the amazing Akalarre! Our room was sooo private, designed to make us feel like we're the only guests there, totally relaxing, with patio and small pool overlooking the Atlantic! Concierge was incredibly helpful, recommended the very wonderful Chus Martí, who guided us through streets and foods of San Sebastian, Hondarribia, St Jean de Luz, Biarritz. Also arranged a day of tasting great Rioja wines. What a find!
This is a place that loses out on the price quality equation. While the view was spectacular, I am afraid that the spartan space did not appeal at all to me. A special pet peeve for me is not having a completely dark room when I am paying hundreds of euros - unacceptable on every level. The light seeped in from both sides of the window and the bed is smack next to the window! Not cool at all and could and should have been addressed- I was up at the crack of dawn which did not make me a happy camper. Thank god I had booked in for only one night. If you are having dinner at Akelarre just book down in the town and take a cab up - give this a skip. I must mention though that the service was kind and efficient. Also the breakfast was superb.
I came across this place while searching for luxury hotels & Michelin starred restaurants in San Sebastián . As with most newly opened hotel, I knew I had to manage my expectations. But to my surprise, it turned out to be a perfect stay. Protests were happening around Barcelona at that time, and luckily , we rented our car out of the airport since our flight home will also depart on the day we drive back to BCN. All worked out perfectly. It was safe and less stressful for us than driving out of the city. Driving out of the car rental exit directly led us to the motorway. We drove from El Prat airport via Zaragoza and arrived Akelarre after 7.5 hrs.(5.5 hours if driving straight with a minimal stop for gas, as we did on the return) We arrived hotel Akelarre, was welcomed and checked in by Claudia & assisted by Victor who brought our suitcases to our rooms. Had an hour to rest and get dressed for our dinner at the Restaurant Akelare of 3* Michelin Chef Pedro Subijana, who we also met prior to the dinner. Set menu choices were from the seasonal menus & the classics which made the chef famous. The hotel has spectacular sea views. Very clean & spacious rooms and bathrooms. Very comfortable beds. Breakfast was served daily at Oteiza and each morning, we were greeted by Itziar who explained to us the Basque specialties on the menu which she encouraged us to try. It was all delicious! The hotel itself reminded us of one of our favourites, the Aman Resorts. The staff were all very well trained and this includes housekeeping. Nothing was out of place in the hotel. Everything you see at the hotel was cohesive and very well thought of. Service was spot on. Something my husband and I truly appreciate, considering that the hotel is just two years old. The hotel is about a 10 minute drive to the city center. It is best to have a car for mobility if you would like to visit other towns nearby. Thank you to everyone including Marta at the front desk at checkout and Hussein at the concierge who tirelessly got and parked our car for us each day we arrived and left the hotel. Our stay was special, very relaxing, enjoyable and memorable. …
A absolute gem. It was such a wonderful experience to stay at the Akelare. The rooms were just lovely with the most wonderful bed I have ever slept in. It was like sleeping on a cloud - so serene and comfy. Both my husband and I slept so well that we almost didn't want to get out of bed in the morning. Amazing cliff side views from the beautiful terrace overlooking the sea with magnificent sunsets. We did not dine at Oteiza the 3-star Michelin restaurant because we already had booked at the Arzak restaurant. But, had breakfast every morning at their other restaurant. This was by far the most wonderful breakfast and the staff was so accommodating and friendly. I had a few requests and both Itziar and Jean Marc could not have been nicer. Such lovely people who went out of their way to get me exactly what I needed. And, I didn't have to ask again and they remembered everything the next days at breakfast. Also, want to give kudos to the front desk staff, Houssine, Jose, & Claudia. They were so helpful and accommodating. We loved every minute there and will return without hesitation. It was a most wonderful experience.…
"We enjoyed a lower level room overlooking the sea to see the coast, too. We could imagine the upper level rooms are equally special."Read full review
