I will preface this review with the comment that just because this hotel didn't work for me doesn't mean it wouldn't for others. I am walking the Camino de Santiago using a luggage transfer service that requires someone be available to receive the luggage the day of arrival and deliver it back to the service the day of departure. The Art Lodge had no staff on site during my one night stay except the cleaner who is there 11.00 to 13.30-14.00. When I asked about luggage receipt the respondent was quite dismissive - if the bag wasn't delivered before 13.30 there would be no one to receive it. Luckily it was delivered while the cleaner was still there. I hardly slept worrying about luggage collection the next day and after speaking with the service in the morning waited outside until they came to collect the bag. Camino walkers have a "passport" that is stamped each day and shown at the end in Santiago de Compostela to justify issuing of the Compostela by the pilgrim office for verification of the journey. With no staff on site there was no stamp that day of course. I had read other reviews that noted limited reception hours but none that said there were no hours. Perhaps I missed that comment. Luggage woes aside the hotel occupies half a floor on the 1st floor (2nd to Americans) of a building that seems to be otherwise apartments. Entry is by codes for the building door, hotel door and room door that are sent when the room is ready for occupancy. My room was very small with a window opening onto an airshaft that also hosted windows from 2 other rooms. The room was quite dark and felt a bit exposed with other windows so close. Everything was very clean and in good condition with pretty decor of palm trees and birds on a feature wall. There was a good A/C unit and the wifi was excellent. There was also a kettle and an espresso maker with no pods. There was nowhere to hang towels in the bathroom area - no hook or rail or even a surface. Overall this hotel just didn't work for me at all but all the other positive reviews suggest that I am an outlier.…
I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough. The staff were kind enough to come and find us with a huge smile when we got lost (don’t use Google maps) and the room was fabulous. Spotless room, light, good space, comfortable bed, well designed, tea and coffee making facilities, and a shower/huge bath with headrests. What more could we ask for? This hotel is pet friendly and Dexter (the camino dog) arrived to a bowl of cold water and a doggie bed. There is nothing I can fault about this charming hotel and the balconies overlooking the street were such fun for people watching and the sun setting. Air con excellent and windows sound proofed too. The staff go more than the extra mile, this was 5* customer service. Dexter agrees Woof! Woof! 5 doggie stars.
My husband and I spent a week at the Bilbao Art Lodge. We have only good things to say about this place. Staff is extremely friendly. Mikel greeted us upon arrival and told us everything we needed to know to have a most lovely week in this very nice city. He also went out of his way to make a list of restaurant recommendations for us, divided into relevant groups. Room was really pretty, good size and very nice bathroom with great shower. Beats many hotels. Best of all, it was very, very clean - and I am quite fuzzy about that. This place offers very good value for money! We will definitely come back and stay here.
Booked this accommodation last minute whilst in Bilbao. The room was great, clean with a large bath, 2 balcony’s with good views up and down the street. A short walk to restaurants and bars. The bus stop to the airport is a 5 mins walk, the buses are regular and is approx 10/15 min bus journey.
Wanted to book this hotel because - It seemed different - It is in the perfect spot - it was reasonably priced To enter in the day time, you need to fix the meeting time. In the evening there is reception available, but not during the night. Very friendly staff. The room was very modern, all was pretty new. What I did not like - the window is to a light tunnel, meaning that you might see to the next room, but natural light very little. The walls are pretty thin, and as the hotel is quite small and compact, you can easily hear ´what is going on´ in the hotel. The parking is 150 meters from the hotel in a private parking hall. Quite comfortable. However the best thing was the location. Location, Location, Location.
A lovely small, spotless, secure hotel, well located. Manu was an excellent host - he provided us with all the necessary information to assist us maximise our short stay in Bilbao and assisted us purchase our bus tickets for San Sebastian. We have no hesitation in recommending Bilbao Art Lodge.
Great location. Beautiful, modern, clean, quiet rooms. You will not find better hosts than Mikel and Alejo, so warm, friendly and helpful - nothing is too much trouble and they have all the information you need to make the best out of your stay in Bilbao. I would not hesitate to stay again and highly recommend to others. One tip - book early, there are only 6 rooms.
We had a lovely time at the Bilbao Art Lodge. Mikkel welcomed us with real kindness, helping us with parking and managing our luggage etc. The lodge is comfortable and amazingly quiet for such a central location. We slept well and after a wonderful trip to the Guggenheim we left in good time for our onward journey towards Hondarribia. It wasn't until we got half way there (about 90 minutes away) that I realized I'd left my handbag in the bakery where I bought some snacks for our three boys. I called Mikkel and, to cut a long story short, Alejo spent an entire afternoon -- giving up his own work time -- trying to get hold of the proprietor, who happened to open up rather late that day. Bilbao is clearly a very honest city because my bag was waiting for me at the bakery when I arrived. I offered to compensate Alejo for his lost time, but he said all he wanted me to do was to be kind to someone else if the opportunity arose. That made me cry, which was very embarrassing but sort of lovely too. Thank you Bilbao and thank you most of all to Alejo and Mikkel for helping me when I really needed help.…
a superb small hotel 5 minutes from the train station and 10 minutes from the old city. Unique rooms, very quiet AC, high-tech shower. the only possible cons for some people are the street noise (didn't bother us though), and not 24/7 front desk (didn't need it)
Sweet guest house in a great location, clean, well-equipped, with edgy decoration. It's an Art Lodge! Perfect place for a short stay, the owners are terrifically kind and helpful. It is also quiet and with a heavenly bed.
