A bit overpriced for a very basic room /70euro/, with thin walls. The equipment is poor and no internet connection, -almost- clean, but not a friendly pension. That is ok, that no breakfast, but simolar places in Spain give the guest some coffee, or tea possibilities. Not here. Not a big problem, but it would be a nice gesture...

This hotel is great for one night stop off stay we stayed for two nights, no towels which was not good as we travelled light and had none, someone came into our room to empty the bin and leave a sheet didn’t bother to make the bed up which I though was a little odd, never mind ok stay.

Very kind welcome however the hotel is Noisy ( noise of toilet, or neighbours). Clean (even shared bathroom), not very central location but close to public transport no breakfast Bon accueil par la propriétaire, mais hotel bruyant ( toilette et voisins de chambres). Propre (meme pour les salles de bain partagée), pas central mais transport public à proximite. pas de possibilite de petit dejeuner

The price here was competitive and we were booking on short notice. It is hard to find with no external signage, a small note on the door buzzer and no signage once inside. You have to buzz to get in and be allowed the outer door and the inner door, somewhat of an inconvenience. It is clean but noisy as others have mentioned. Close to shopping and the main bus terminal which was good for us as we were using Flix Bus. Wifi quality good but not great.

My son and I stayed here for one night while in Bilbao. We had a small room with twin beds. It was clean and comfortable enough for one night. Walls are thin so you can hear everything. Bring ear plugs. I can't help but to compare it though to a pension we stayed at in San Sebastian the next couple of nights after we left Bilbao. Pension Arias was twice the price and offered no extra amenities while the one in San Sebastian had a lot of extra amenities. Still, I was happy enough that it was clean as were the bathrooms. We must have been there during a slow time because we never saw another guest although there was at least one other guest because we heard him get checked in that night. I had been hesitant about the shared bathroom but since we never saw another guest it was almost as if we had a private bathroom. It was right across the hall. There was a second bathroom somewhere but I never saw it. Location was OK. It was a bit of a walk to everything but that was fine with us. We were OK with walking. We did take a taxi once because it was raining.

I'm a backpacker that only returns to the hotel to crash and have a shower. A decent bed, a decent bathroom and some peace and quiet are all I require. However, I can't recommend the Pensión Areas. * I booked a single room (over the New Year period, for 6 nights) and thought 35€ a night (still 5 to 10€ less than if not booked thru booking.com) was overpriced. Must say I'm using other European cities like Lisbon, Porto, Barcelona,.. as a reference. Bilbao seems to be a bit expensive as to accomodation. * The worst bed I've ever had. Hurted my back. Linnen and blankets always slid off and I woke up during the nights without a cover. * No prob that the room is hardly bigger than the bed, but the walls are really thin. You can hear anything in any room. And as there are no rooms that aren't close to one of the two bathrooms, there's quite a bit of noise. * I would rate the bathrooms as very good, if it wasn't that both showers don't have a shower head holder. * The owner is a lovely non-intrusive lady, exclusively speaking Spanish. She does keep the place clean every day. * To Bilbao standards it's out of the city centre, but it's only a 15' walk to get there and some 20-25' to get all the way accross town to the Guggenheim. There are 3 good bars in front of the hotel. You're 2 streets from the short street (Calle) Zugastinobia (Kalea), that's full of cosy bars.

A small pensione about a mile from Bilbao city centre. 10 mins. walk to the metro and close to Ametzola train station and Guggenheim museum - which was fascinating, Even though the walls seemed almost paper thin, the room had lovely wooden floors and was clean and tidy. Many cafes near the pensione and a fantastic fountain which I watched for ages - just mesmorized by it.

Good location , drive around a bit to find parking , lively neighbourhood with local bars and restaurants, very friendly. At the price , it would be nice to get a small breakfast, but Bilbao is more expensive than other cities.

It's a second floor in a residential/commercial building. The room was small but not bad. They give you towels but they were a little bit old and rotten. The bathroom are shared between guests, but you get the whole bathroom for yourself (hand basin + toilet + shower), which I considered a bonus point. The owner was not as helpful when we asked her to call us a cab for the following morning. After some self debating she decided to wake up early and help us. (I'm not sure I could blame her since it was a special day, January 1st). It's 8 minutes away from the bus terminal and a pleasant 20 minute walk to the Guggenheim, and maybe 10 to the Alhondiga. I have mixed feelings for this place. It wasn't great but not bad. If I ever go back to Bilbao I wouldn't discard Pension Arias if it's cheap enough.

Room was clean and a good size, shared bathrooms were also clean and tidy. Possible to walk into town or to the Guggenheim etc or you could catch public transport. The lady that runs the pension is very friendly and helpful, she doesn't speak English but that's not a problem as she manages to communicate everything you need to know and when I did have a problem with the towels not being replaced in my room I was able to communicate this to her. The rooms did have a slightly worn look to them and the towels were a bit mix and match but it was good value and I had a really comfortable stay here. Note - The Pension does not have a sign outside so make sure you know the street number when looking for it.
