I booked this hotel as a special treat for my husbands birthday. We booked a premier suite with hot tub and the room was fantastic. We just wanted a really chilled weekend and it started off amazingly. A nice touch from the hotel they sent a bottle of cava and some desserts for my husband which was really nice, then it went wrong! The people upstairs got a little too excited with the hot tub and water started pouring through our bathroom ceiling and flooding our bathroom. The cracks in the ceiling were getting bigger and the water coming through multiple points. I called reception they sent a maintenance man who just said we need to wait for the water to stop and a cleaner who put towels down and would be back. We wanted to relax and didn’t want people coming in and out of the room so we requested a new room, plus we were concerned about the stability of the ceiling. There was no other room of the same standard available and no hot tub, we were gutted as we wanted to use the hot tub and it’s the main reason we booked this room, but we understood there was nothing else available. Upon going to reception to get the new room key the only words spoken were “room 423” no apology absolutely nothing. In our package there was free mini bar, the mini bar in the new room was empty, the room was considerably smaller and the bath well.....would struggle to fit a hobbit in it! I was really upset with the attitude of the staff, it was as if I had inconvenienced them. I went back to reception to ask if we left could we have a refund for that night, as to be honest we booked the premium room for a reason just staying in a normal hotel room defeated the object. “If you leave the room now your room service bill will be written off” now okay the room service bill we had was €75 so this is some compensation but I am just gutted that the attitude of the staff put a massive dampener on the weekend and my husbands birthday, I think they could have handled the situation in a much better way.

First the many positives. Just got back after 8 nights at the Barcelo. Very impressed with the size and cleanliness of the room and bathroom. I don't think it was dated at all and the view across the golf course and mountains from the 3rd floor was lovely as was the size of the balcony. From our entry to exit the staff were lovely, attentive when needed but unobtrusive when not. The pool was not open due to the time of year but looked very nice and the communal areas were good. Parking was 15 euros a day under the hotel but there is on street parking just opposite so, unless you have mobility problems would not bother with underground. This is not a central hotel so hire car is a must. Costs about 20 euros to get into Marbella by taxi or Uber.
The disappointments. Mainly the food, we were half board. Salad and fruit were good but the hot meats not great, bit bland and occasionally not hot enough. No drinks of a night without charge (eg coffee machines turned off).
Overall really liked the hotel but I think if I visited again it would be on room only basis. Only lost the 5 star on the overall food standard and variety but I guess we are not in peak season and this may be a variable thing.

Barcelo Marbella

Clean, good value hotel. Set in a quiet residential area of Guadalmina Alta about 1500 metres off the main arterial coast road.
This hotel is generously proportioned both in amenity areas and the bedrooms are large and well appointed. The buffet breakfasts are plentiful and varied and the staff well trained and pleasant.
Parking is available in hotel car park for a charge or there is off road parking opposite

Visited the gym which was clean and well equipped

The hotel could improve by having a cosy lounge area and bar.
the present arrangement is a few chairs in the snack bar and is more corporate than cosy.

One disappointing item was that there was no uk tv. The BBC was not available due to a fault. We asked every day for six days and each day was told it would be fixed but this did not happen.

However these are only small problems

It was our third stay there and we certainly would stay here again.

Top Tip.

To get the best enjoyment of the surrounding areas Marbella, Estepona and San Pedro and to visit the best beaches located at Elvira, Cabapino , Rosario
A car hire is essential

We had a wonderful time in this hotel, it was a special trip as we got engaged, we stayed in the Club Premium Suite and had an enormous room. Roses on arrival for my fiancee, champagne 🥂 on ice, the Entertainment Experience Manager Jose A. Guerrero made our time extra special, As club premium members you also can use the private pool (adults only as it deep) set in a quiet secluded sun trap. We were half board, the only grey area for me, food could have been better, if you weren't down early for breakfast or dinner some of the food had gone cold and the plates were always cold. (I hate food served on a cold plate). If you don't play golf or don't have a car it's a bit out of town, so expect to pay €7 to San Pedro, €15 to Puerto Banus and €21 to Casco Antiguo de la Marbella that's ew. Its a 12 minute walk to Guadalmina Mall where there are a selection of little restaurants and a Carré Four Supermercado. 30 minutes walk to Guadalmina Playa.
By far the best thing about this hotel are the staff, beautiful, friendly, helpful they make you feel like family, we will be back next May, A big thank you to Jose and his fabulous team ♥️💍🙏☀️😎

We stayed for 3 mights while visiting family that live locally. The hotel was quiet and relaxing. The pool area is lovely with a bar area and Childrens and adults pools, there's plenty of sun loungers, no need to put towels out early and the whole hotel is very clean. It is an older hotel, but it doesn't feel dated, the rooms are larger than average and the bathrooms include handy dental kits and shampoo, conditioner etc. The dining room is spacious with an excellent choice of food, we only ate breakfast which was excellent, the only thing they could do better is allergen labelling and a station for gluten free bread and cereal, but as a celiac I dint struggle I had a huge choice of naturally gluten free foods and when I did ask for hot foods (eggs and mushrooms) cooked seperately from the buffet, it was no problem. They do label and provide lactose free milk. We didn't eat lunch (as full from breakfast) or evening meal as was with family but we did look at the evening buffet which was 22 euros and it looked superb and if it tastes as good breakfast it will be very good value. Full range of fish meats and vegetarian.
The hotel carpark is very good with two underground carpark areas so plenty of secure space and good value at 10 euros for 24hrs. The location is great for golf and also getting taxis to san pedro, Estepona or Puerto Banus. A really well located hotel with a short commute to all areas. We will be returning.

Dear Lara, We appreciate that you took the time to share your experience with us. We regret to hear that our efforts to cater to all dietary requirements did not entirely meet your expectations. Our team is continuously working on improving our allergen labeling to ensure that all guests, including those with specific dietary needs such as celiac requirements, have a stress-free dining experience. We are sorry that the solutions provided during the stay were not satisfactory. We are delighted to read that you found the hotel to be quiet and relaxing, and that the pool area, with its ample loungers, contributed positively to your stay. Your remarks regarding the high level of cleanliness and the generous room size are greatly appreciated, as is your recognition of the thoughtful bathroom amenities. It's pleasing to know that you enjoyed the variety of the breakfast options and the spaciousness of our dining room. Additionally, we are glad that you found value and convenience in our secure parking facilities and that our strategic location enhanced your experience by providing easy access to local attractions. Your intent to return to Barceló Marbella is the greatest compliment we could receive. We look forward to the pleasure of welcoming you back on future occasions. Best regards, Management Team

Just returned from 5/6 days solo trip at Barcelo.
Positives- Lobby is beautiful, super clean & smells great. Buffet is brilliant with a lot of choices. The rooms are extremely large with great features & good air conditioning.
Negatives- from arriving at 3:45pm, I was expecting to check in as it begins at 3pm, room wasn’t available & I wasn’t given the warmest reaction from the beginning with staff. Any small thing like using an iron, getting a taxi, asking a question would have to be done 2/3 times minimum before someone actually did it.
The biggest issue was the tv, I had no television for my entire stay accept for roughly 4 hours on the second last day. Reception told me the whole hotels tvs were down but when i asked other people staying they assured me there’s were working which means it was a lie to keep me quiet which is insane.
My last morning I was promised complimentary breakfast so when I arrived at reception, I was met by manager who informed me that’s not how things work but he was willing to do it on this occasion (pretty passive aggressive) & proceeded to speak to colleagues about myself in Spanish thinking I can’t read body language.

Not exactly ideal by any means, it’s a pity because there’s some lovely things about this place but it definitely needs to be modernised slightly & staff could be kinder.

I booked this hotel as a last minute getaway and had a lovely break here.
The hotel was quiet and it was peaceful around the poolside. The hotel room was spacious and the bed was very big and spacious. The room was spotlessly clean. The hotel location was great, other reviews say this is not in the location of Marbella, however a taxi is approximately only a 8 minute drive away if you want to go into puerto banus to the shops and restaurants , which we did in the evenings. It was convenient to get a taxi, when we ordered a taxi at reception it always arrived within a couple of minutes (I think there was a taxi rank nearby). We had food and some drinks at the hotel bar next to the poolside which were at a good price. The only fault I had was that the balconies are not private as you can see and hear on to the next room and the pool was not heated so it was too cold for me to go in. Luckily for me I don’t tend to go in the pool too much and was happy to sunbathe around the poolside.

We had booked through Jet2holidays to stay at the ‘4 star ‘ Barcelo Marbella hotel half board.
we had to sign a declaration that unless our stuff was in the safe, the hotel was not responsible.
The room was ok But on closer inspection we found out that our balcony sliding doors were unable to lock. This was reported shortly after we entered the room and we were told by reception it would be sorted. 9 hours later still not resolved. The balcony area was of adequate size however the wooden balcony totally obstructed our view of anything other than the sky. And this would be the same on any floors one two or three , due to the wooden railing. When you sit on the seat outside on the balcony the wooden railing was above your head and we could see nothing. The partitions either side of our balcony provided us with no privacy whatsoever either with the apartment on our left or right.
Staff are thin on the ground. We went to the gym (which was minimal) ie not even 2 cycling bikes for a hotel that caters for at least 70 rooms. No staff were available and we were left to our own devices. The pool was adequate for families with small children but not for adults.
However my biggest grudge is that this hotel is marked as a 4 star hotel and the dining area for breakfast and evening meal looks like a school canteen . With the food quality reflecting the same.
No red meat. Chicken (cooked like the soul of your boot! Deep fried and tough). Food selection was minimal, certainly not the quality and choice of a 4star… more like a 2 star. On top of all this we asked for a jug of water on the table and we were contemplating ordering a bottle of wine. BUT the staff promptly told us NO liquid or beverages were included in the all inclusive meal. Not tea or coffee or even a jug of water !! This was our first night and it has ruined our holiday as we have stayed at numerous 4 star hotels that have outclassed this one by far. My advice to all is not to come to this hotel and ensure whichever hotel you are booking, check that if it is a four star rating that it is a four star quality service you are receiving. No meal should come without liquid. That should minimum a jug of water with the meal and tea and coffee also served inclusive of the meal. This can add a lot of additional cost to your holiday.
Only one or two of the dishes had a name plate the rest up to your imagination, again school canteen!

Room was very big and the views were beautiful. A few things let it down for me.
1. Staff were not friendly
2. Room service was very slow and you had to use an app and it would take them forever just to confirm the order.
3. I ordered a club sandwich which came with old black lettice.
4. I asked for an iron... it took them ages to get me one... however the surface plate was broken and so when I used it the cracked plate pulled on the fabric of my dress.
5. I told them that the iron I had was broken and they told me there was no more.
6. A broken iron is a health and safety concern why have they retained a broken iron.
7. There are no snacks available at this hotel apart from plain haribos or cheesy puff crisps.

The hotel itself is gorgeous it's ashame about the staff and the food.
Okay for one or two nights but this hotel doesn't live up to its brand name.

Booked here for a hen do (approx 10-15 mins in a taxi to puerto banus) and I was not disappointed.
Check-in was late at night (around midnight) and was seamless with interconnecting rooms which was very appreciated.
Hotel was clean, pool was lovely, cabana beds were fab they’re 15 euros per person and if you add on an extra 5 you get a bottle of cava.
Breakfast was great lots of options and empty plates cleared promptly.
Only gripe is you can’t get into the swimming pool before 11am and bar doesn’t open until 12pm for drinks - but other than that fantastic!
Would highly recommend!
