We booked this hotel for two nights as a stop over before heading to a villa we booked inland. The hotel is easy to get to and is perfectly located to everything. (Tip - call the hotel direct for a good nightly rate, we did and it was about 150 euros cheaper than any booking website and we were upgraded to a superior room which was amazing). From book over the phone, arriving and checking out the staff were lovely and very helpful.
We are a small family with one child and the room was perfect - large king bed (super comfy) with a sofa bed for the little one though it was just like a normal bed and very comfy. The hotel has a real modern feel to it yet the historic features of the old part of the hotel are still visible. The room did overlook a couple of restaurants on the side street and yes there was a little noise but not enough to stop us all getting to sleep ok. The hotel roof top pool was a godsend as one of the days was about 37 degrees so a dip in the pool was nice to cool off. Nice comfy sun loungers and tables also. Due to COVID if you want to use the pool you have to book a timed slot (2 hours max) wasn't an issue, there was only us and a couple on our slot. Reception provide towels for the pool.
we didn't use the hotel restaurant for breakfast or any meals as we had places booked within Malaga (our favourites!!) but it looked lovely.

We would defiantly return to this hotel again and cannot recommend it enough.

This hotel is located right on the edge of Malaga port with views stretching upto the cathedral and down to the sea
The hotel itsellf is made up of an original building and a new addition with on site parking
We stayed in a superior room in the old building
The room itself was pleasantly large with plenty of storage space, seating and beverage amenities.
The bathroom was large with a wonderful fixed and adjustable shower and all the amenities including hairdryer.
The hotel also has a wonderful roof top terrace and small pool with bars and a dj at the weekend.
The in-house matrix restaurant offers a simple breakfast offering but with the usual high quality produce.
This restaurant is also open to the public for lunch and dinner and seems very popular with the locals.
We also tried the excellent room service menu and again the offer was slightly different to the restaurant.
All the staff are all incredibly helpful and polite and again nothing is too much trouble.
I would highly recommend this hotel for short and long stays in this wonderful cultural and scenic part of the world
I hope it is not too long before I return again
Mucho gracias Hotel Molina Lario

To start .....Normally, we do not do city breaks.

We ended up here as our pre-booked hotel was closed when we arrived.
Late at night, a foreign country, no hotel, a LHD hire car with no working Sat nav.

We googled recommended hotels and this came up.

A long story short . . . . . What a lucky problem.

The Location was 100 yards from the cathedral in a pedestrian zone with dozens of restaurants and cafes within 5 minutes walk.

The staff were friendly, helpful and informative.
The room clean, sanitised, bright and spacious. We had a balcony from which we could see the cathedral to the left and harbour to the right.

Breakfast was continental style with a good selection available for all tastes.

The restaurant was modern Spanish, fused with European general. First class. Price around 100 euros for two.

In conclusion, we arrived nervous, but left determined to return to the same room of the same hotel !

Thank you for everything.

We had 4 nights in a superior room (120) and 4 nights in a standard room (208)

In reality there was not a lot of difference other than costs and a sofa.

The rooms were spacious and had really good bathrooms. In particular the shower was excellent

The beds were large and very comfortable

For a pretty expensive hotel, that attracted international travellers, I'd say that the TV channels available was pretty dismal. There were 51 channels and as far as I could see 49 were in Spanish, 1 in French and BBC World News in English

Although there was tea and coffee the staff seemed very stingy with providing what were pretty low quality tea bags and these had to be requested a number of times which was pretty boring and rather pathetic

Room 120 was very noisy indeed being above the restaurant and across a very narrow street from other restaurants. The noise went on well into the early hours

The reception staff we came into contact with were helpful and responsive

Booked this hotel for a weeks winter break in February. It’s location is fantastic, just behind the cathedral, and close to all the historic areas of Malaga. It is also very near to the main shopping street and lots of great restaurants and tapas bars. The hotel itself has been updated to a high standard and the rooms are extremely clean.
The staff were very welcoming and spoke excellent English.
Often hotel food can be disappointing but not at Molina Lario. They serve an excellent breakfast and choice for lunch and dinner is very good, with a tasting menu available should you wish. The waitress and bar staff are lovely.
Our only complaint would be The Top bar plays very loud music on Fridays - too loud for comfort. So if booking make sure you don’t get a room close !
Unfortunately during our stay they decided to renovate the swimming pool with no notice. Whilst I appreciate it needs to be kept to a certain standard it would have been nice to have had some prior warning as one of the reasons we booked this hotel was for the pool and rooftop terrace. At this time the rooftop bar was not open either.
But we would certainly book this hotel when we return to Malaga.

This is not a bad hotel but I am giving it a low rating because it falls well short of what it should be for the price and its 4 star rating. Here are a few points.

On arrival we were asked if we would like a room facing sideways with a double bed or a room facing the front with two single beds. We chose the side-facing room and suffered appalling street noise until very late at night and again very early in the morning. Giving us the choice in this manner was very unsatisfactory. They should have said, "The side room is very noisy so if you want to get some sleep you had better choose the other one, and we note that you booked a room with a double bed and followed up with an email to make sure, but unfortunately we don't have any good rooms with double beds."

The quality of the room was adequte, just a little disappointing for a superior room in a 4 star hotel. It hadn't been modernised to electronic locks so you had to fiddle with a heavy clunky key. It did have a nespresso machine with pods but we never saw any sign of milk or sugar.

They advertise a rooftop pool but not only is it so small you would be lucky to swim one stroke in it but it is in the middle of a cramped bar area which takes people from the street who stand and sit, fully dressed, all around the pool right near the edge. I cannot imagine a more unpleasant place to swim.

The staff were kind and friendly but their knowledge of tourist attractions was poor. On their recommendation we took a taxi to the Botanical gardens which was closed. Amazingly, the reception staff had actually looked at the garden's leaflet which, we later saw, clearly stated they were closed on Mondays.

If you don't mind the noise, the location was excellent.

We stayed in a junior suite at the Molino lario hotel. We were totally disappointed in this hotel. It is not a 4-star, it’s more like a 3-star.
I guess I’ll just start from the beginning…
The lobby was dirty and the staff were not especially friendly. After checkin, only twice did someone greet us as we came and left.
Our suite was on the 3rd floor and faced the cathedral. There was a slice of a view, but more importantly, it was extremely noisy, especially at night. Particularly because the neighborhood garbage collection is right across the street and the trucks came at all hours of the day and night. It was extremely noisy throughout the day and intermittently throughout the night.
Upon reaching our room, it was not vacuumed and the rub was filthy. throughout our stay, the tub remained dirty. We even put a towel in the tub to show that it was dirty, but it was never cleaned.
We requested a pillow from the pillow menu, but were told that pillow was not available.
We were only given two towels a day, and no washcloth. The shower flooded every time we took a shower so we would have to use all of the towels to stop the flood.
Breakfast is a very basic breakfast. Nothing special whatsoever, just very basic. The waitress was unhelpful and rude. If you are used to a true four star hotel European breakfast, you will be disappointed.
We were given passes for a drink at the rooftop bar. When we went, the bartenders, a male and female, were both totally rude.
If you are looking for a 4-star hotel in Malaga, we would suggest that you keep looking.

I stayed 4 nights with my husband and 2 children (11 and 8) and had a great time. The hotel is in a fantastic location and perfect for exploring Malaga old town.

The pool on the roof is small but nevertheless a good spot for the kids to have a dip, and adults to relax. Lovely spot for an evening drink too, with the view of the city and stunning cathedral.

The rooms are clean and spacious with large bathroom too. The bed was very comfortable, and the room was serviced daily with fresh towels etc. Nespresso coffee and machine was a nice touch too. The only slight grumble was the water temp in the shower was a bit temperamental and got very hot very quickly!

The food in the bar/restaurant was delicious. Breakfast had an ample selection, nothing special or amazing but did the job. You can order fresh sweet and savoury items like eggs, omelettes, avocado on toast, churros or Crepes, but the staff didn’t tend to proactively ask if you wanted to so every time we had to get someone’s attention or go and ask someone. Obviously not a big issue, hence still giving the 5 star review.

The street immediately our side the bar entrance is charming with some good restaurants. Loads more cute eateries all around and shops. Walking distance to the harbour area too, and the beach.

We loved Malaga and hope to return again and would definitely consider this hotel again!

We enjoyed the location of the hotel. I would have given them a 5 rating except for two areas -

1. The Parking was crazy. You are much better off parking across the street at the Marina Parking garage than trying to drive through the pedestrian area at 10kmh or less.

2. Rooms ending 14-18 face an alleyway full of restaurants which are open until 1230am with live music. The windows aren't thick enough to block the sound so pack some earplugs if you need to get to bed early. Then at 730am city workers come through and collect bottles or empty sewers (the smell was pretty bad).

Other than that everything under the hotel's control was excellent. The service was great including the bar and restaurant. The rooms were big and the shower was great.

Stayed here for three nights with our two young daughters, excellent all around. The location is outstanding for those wishing to walk around the historic center on foot, and the rooms do not disappoint. There are two buildings in this property, one a historic building that has been renovated, and the other a new, presumably more modern/efficient wing. We choose the historic wing and loved it - renovations were not only done well, but the design was tasteful and thoughtfully executed as well. Service and housekeeping were strong. We have elite loyalty status at the neighboring hotel but ended up here, and the experience was much better. The downside was the (very) small pool on the rooftop (nice view) - our girls weren't interested in going in, which is rare - but the stay was excellent nonetheless.
