We stayed here for 3 nights! When we arrived the receptionist wasn’t helped at all, didn’t tell us where the restaurant was or make us feel welcome etc. The room was nice and with a view of the sea (paid upgrade prior to coming) there isn’t much to do within walking distance but we got a taxi into Malaga 12€ and spent the day there! The food was basic but lots of variety! The weather was abit overcast one day so we went into the indoor pool, to be told it was 4€ each for a shower cap which you had to buy? With us only wanting a dip we didn’t want to pay. No entertainment at night and not many places to walk to. Depending what you want and how long you stayed for do your research!

My partner and I stayed at Sol Guadalmar for 3x nights at the end of March. The hotel itself is fine; clean, fairly modern, comfy beds (pillows were amazing!) and plenty of sun beds. However, that’s where the niceties end. The weather was horrendous during our stay (which we’d checked prior) but I thought this wouldn’t be a problem as the hotel has an indoor pool - be aware that you have to pay €5 for pool cap in order to use said pool and an additional €15 if you want to have a dip in the jacuzzi. The gym is free to use. The worst and most stand out part of our stay is the location - there was absolutely nothing in the vicinity. Which obviously isn’t the hotels fault, however, the reviews and website lead you to believe that there are things to do/see within walking distance - there is not. I understand we visited out of season but, I do believe that even if we were to visit during peak Summer, the 2 rundown bars and 1 small supermarket would not have kept you entertained for 3 days, let alone a week. And please don’t be fooled by pictures of the beach - it’s grey sand mixed in with stones, surrounded by a baron wasteland. We booked a ‘Room Only’ stay, thinking that we would be able to grab breakfast in a local café and then venture out for dinner - not wanting to fork out a fortune on taxis, we got breakfast at the hotel (which is great by the way, plenty of choice and tasty food) but will set you back €12pp each morning. We ended up getting taxis to the nearest hot spots - Torremolinos which is about 15 minutes drive and will be €15ish in a taxi each way, Benalmádena which is slightly further so a bit more € or Malaga which is 10 minutes from the hotel in the other direction costing €11/12 each way. The first two are more beachfront party/restaurant vibes, whereas Malaga is a beautiful tourist city full of amazing buildings and has lots of great bars and restaurants too. The hotel interior is great but it’s surroundings leave a lot to be desired and, that being said, I would not feel safe walking around the hotel at night. It’s a small residential area which is poorly lit. I did my research before booking this holiday and the reviews seem to be in favour of the location which, upon arrival, I was extremely confused by. This isn’t an attack on the hotel, but more so the misleading information - Sol Guadalmar is great, it’s just in the wrong place. And to add a cherry on the cake, construction was taking place at the hotel during our stay which started at 8am every morning.

We were welcomed with a pleasant smile, booking in was easy. We were on the 8th floor, room 820, gorgeous view (just wish we knew about the upgrade to the front of the place) because the sun didn't come round to our balcony at all which was a bit disappointed. The room it self was roomy two double beds (very nice). Tea and coffee facilities in the room. Room service was every day if you want it. Very clean overall ( only down fall there was building work being done which we weren't aware of). The inside pool was very warm, the outside pool opened on our last day so we didn't get to on in it. Had a gorgeous massage from l wonderful women (well worth the money). The gentleman in the gym/swimming pool was very informative (at the time bottle water was cheaper in the gym than in the self service machine). Buffet in the morning was very nice, lots of choice, did vary some days. Evening buffet was nice to. We enjoyed our break and very reasonable price which included breakfast.

We had a wonderful week's holiday all inclusive here after spending Christmas with friends. Our room overlooking the pool / sea provided a great view. The indoor pool was lovely (lovely staff) and the restaurant/ bar were very well organised :) Many thanks to Julian, Esterban, Noelia, Pepe, Joseph and others who were so attentive. Reception lounge areas were beautifully and brightly decorated and cleaned very regularly. Had a lovely pedicure at the attached salon. We had a wonderful relaxing time and would return. On the ' needs improvement' - Bedrooms needed upgrading as bedroom decor dated, doors didnt fit. TV control didnt work and neither did safe initially. Reception staff struggled and even asking what was happening on New Years Eve, didn't seem to have a clue AND so we missed the 12 Grapes at midnight on 31 Dec due to poor information. It took 2 attempts to get safe to work with engineer and 4 attempts to get a new TV control and wonderful Sergio was so helpful. The little shop does not enhance hotel with dusty shelves full of 70s stuff and quite a frightening man who sat all day - Franchise would do better to attract the small children / shoppers as hotel is not best located for outside escapism.

Worst hotel experience of my life - unrespectful reception, discrimination based on skin colour, racist personell. After waiting 30 min in line for checkin 1.1.22 at 17.00 hrs, i friendly said happy ny, the receptionist did not even say hello and helped a white lady that jumped the line. I have never in my life felt so hurt at a hotel. It was obvious that the french family before us and the spanish people get number 1 treatment and people of colour get 2nd treatment. After confronting the receptioninst ricardo, he said to me please dont cry. And he told me to go away, even though my 2 rooms were already paid. Then my wife talked with him and we checked in in a old dirty 1 star room. Rotten bathroom, broken old furniture. NEVER AGAIN SOL GUADALMAR MALAGA. 4 star my ass, should get 1 star only.
