Many guests appreciate the spaciousness of the Maritim Hotel Cologne's rooms, yet some feel the decor could use modernization, especially with amenities like air conditioning. The hotel's traditional charm is noted, though opinions on its outdated aspects vary. While the service receives applause for friendliness, there are mentions of occasional disorganization. Its central location earns high marks for convenience. Guests enjoy the pool and sauna, but the value for money is debated, with some criticizing the cost versus quality of services. Cleanliness is generally well-regarded, with a few calls for more rigorous housekeeping.

Hotel in Cologne's best location.

The rooms are ok and clean, but the far too colorful curtains in the room damage the color receptors of the eyes.

The room rate on Carnival Friday/Saturday is 278,—€/night/couple (incl. Breakfast) just street robbery. One of the 3 elevators was broken (again) and we lived on the 5th floor. It just went up, but down? Waiting times when you could grow a full beard.

The Maritim Hall, where the carnival session took place, was beautifully decorated, with good service - except for: No Cologne was served in the whole hall (and that in Cologne). Guests were also not allowed to take Kölsch into the hall from the sales points in front of the hall. It had to be drunk outside. On request it was said: The Kölsch glasses are too "fragile" and can break. Eight equally “fragile” wine and champagne glasses were on all tables, however - what is this? If you shy away from logistics with single glasses (0.2l), you should sell “Pittermännchen” - then you can tap yourself.

during the break then - as always - to the "Cologne Stuff" in the hotel lobby. There is a small, half with a little meadow topped roegg gel with a few onions and cucumber slices - 4,50€. What about the street robbery?

The next day breakfast. Scrambled eggs as a solid, compact window putty mass, without any shine, not “fluffy” and tasteless (made of egg powder?). The sausages and meatballs lukewarm, no fried bacon strips. Coffee is only available if you queue in front of a machine - Service: Misrepresentation.

All in all: The price increases annually, the service gets worse, it seems to be saved on the guest.

By the way: I have a Maritim card and presented it (points) - but it didn't exist for me. Our circle of friends thought they were smart and so (much easier for the hotel and also for us) we commissioned one of us 18 people to book all 9 rooms. However, this turned out to be quite a mistake - each couple would have had to book individually through the Maritim loyalty program. So: No points credit - no points for our stay at the Maritim (so we do not remain good friends, dear Maritim team).

Dear Maritim Team: next year I will come again. Get better again and get back to a “normal” price/performance level. I can always accept increased prices at event times, but what you are doing is street robbery!

Stayed on the 5th floor overlooking the atrium in a budget room. Decor was traditional, room a good size, bed comfortable and the shower powerful with sensory/colour rotating lighting. No plugs by the bed which was a bit inconvenient. Worst thing for me was that the curtains didn't fully cover the window so a lot of light came around them from the giant lit angel hanging outside in the atrium (on the 2nd night we pushed the chairs against the curtains which helped a bit). Also noise carried from the bar downstairs although it quietened down after about 11.30pm and after that it was just a few noisy guests coming back late. It was quite warm in the hotel generally but the air con did seem to keep the room from getting overwhelmingly hot. Useful fridge, security deposit box and Nespresso machine (with pods and powdered milk) were provided.

The hotel is in a great location for a visit to Cologne attractions, with the river on one side (<10 mins walk to the chocolate museum) and shops/bars/tram stop on the other side (<20 mins walk to the cathedral). 1 of the 6 german markets was just opposite with another by the chocolate museum so great for a christmas visit. Hotel was also lit up lovely for christmas so there was a festive atmosphere. The swimming pool, sauna and steam room were lovely. Also had a fab back massage which 4 of us were able to just book in for on the day. Reception were helpful when we asked for directions on how best to get to the cable car and if we could leave our bags on the last day (they were labelled and locked up securely in the piano bar).

Breakfast was served in the atrium and as a Coeliac, I was wondering what would be gluten free. Thankfully everything was labelled with allergens (which seemed rare in Cologne). I was able to have sausage, mushrooms, beans and scrambled eggs from the hot selection and when I asked for gluten free bread they brought out a little basket with 2 different types of bread/roll and some muesli (which I couldn't eat unfortunately as it had oats in - but luckily I had brought some cereal with me anyway). Plus fruit, yoghurt, ham, cheese, orange juice, tea, throthy coffees, etc. The breakfast kept me going until teatime!

Overall I had a great stay at the Maritim and would recommend it.

For me, unfortunately, a disappointment.

The hotel is hard to get old ( BJ1988 )
an elevator was defective, so stairs are more likely in the morning, as the remaining elevators are always crowded and rather lame.

Price / performance with booked Superior category is not correct.
Rooms with single beds can be pushed together according to the reception supposedly to double beds, but this is virtually only possible with a lot of rebuilding and effort of the housekeeping in the room as cables are too short etc. the safe was broken - building services necessary.

Water damage with garbage can in the hallway - in front of our room , therefore annoying chatter at night.

Communication / reception with housekeeping rather poor = no messages left or arrived.

Cafe Haymarket for breakfast
really bad for a hotel of this class if you offer breakfast until 11 o'clock the quality shouldn't decrease until then - scrambled eggs cold , toast, croissants, raisin flatz already in the raw state very dry and hard, butter not found.
Not a catchy concept where what can be found, so all guests in the entrance area are already standing in the way and on their feet.

Unfortunately, the beautiful view of the cathedral doesn't make it any better.

You should think of management here how to remedy such simple shortcomings.

For the price I have already been offered better elsewhere in the Maritim Group.

The hotel has a certain standard, but nothing more. The overall style and architecture suggest a visual concept that would have worked twenty or thirty years ago, but today just seems out of date. The rooms were fine - although they looked very old-fashioned. The very modern showers were worth mentioning, however. Breakfast is edible, but it was often cold and warm bacon was completely missing.

The corridors outside my room were sometimes very busy with children riding their scooters. In general, some guests were relatively loud in their rooms, so you could still hear them clearly, even with the door closed. I am of course aware that as hotel staff you cannot always have direct influence on such things, and I refrained from complaining - especially because I was on vacation.

Unfortunately, the pool was much too small, and it was not possible to swim more than a few lengths.

The central location in front of or in the city center is of course unbeatable.

Highly recommended as a pleasant place to stay for further education and training, but if you really want to go on holiday, it is worth looking for a better alternative.

The hotel stands out with its name, staff and location. No matter where you meet staff everything was fine and also very friendly.
We were upstairs for lunch in the restaurant, with roof terrace, there was such a small buffet style that was good. From the restaurant you also come directly to the observation tower which is located next to the Deutzer Brücke, from there you have a really good overview directly on the Rhine.
The location of the Maritim is mega, you can hardly find better places in Cologne and as a Cologne resident I can rate that quite well.
The breakfast was fully fine it was everything you expect when you sleep here.

It is a pity that you look at the almost 30 years in the hotel. The old crummy carpets still convey such old-timer charm that were certainly hip. But in many places you can already see quirks that want to be fixed. The bathroom in our room was completely renovated with a horny shower!
Even if renovation costs a lot of money and you can not always do everything the same but an eye for cleanliness does not cost much. Too bad that the beautiful golden elevator at the reception is dirty from below, does not do justice to the elevator.
Disgusting was the smell of the dishes used, which was right next to our room door, on the floor. Already around 2 p.m. after checking in the smell came to one as soon as the elevator opened. When we went to breakfast the next morning around 8am the housekeeping in the hallway was also right outside our door. When we got back, the housekeeping was gone but the stink bomb was still there.
I don't think that's okay at all therefore only 3 out of 5 star review.

Twenty years ago we were regular guests at the Martim Cologne and were always very satisfied, so this time we booked this location for a weekend. It's the European Championships and for this reason the prices are extreme (1 simple double room for 2 days €780.) But that doesn't mean that the service has to be bad. Without any information we were given a room with separate beds, which were also badly made. The minibar was empty, but there was a bottle of water on the desk (warm) which was not replaced the next day. They also skimped on hygiene products. The knock came when we checked out. We wanted to go out for breakfast with our family later, so we would have liked to have a coffee. The staff sent us from one restaurant to the next café, but there was no coffee. Just advice, we should try here or there, instead of calling and checking whether it was open or a place was available. Very, very bad.

Apparently friendly staff, but not at all inclined to find solutions/alternatives to your requests... Despite my multiple requests, the staff pretends that no room with a window is available (200 Euros for one night/1 no one... they could have made an effort...). In other words, for this price, no fresh air, only ventilation or air conditioning (which I can't stand at all, so I slept very badly).
Another problem: I was told, at the time of check-in, the possibility of a gluten-free and milk-free breakfast. Unfortunately, this was not the case at all. I noticed this after a long wait in the brunch room (they still reimbursed me for this breakfast I didn't eat).
Only positive note at lunch: crunchy vegetables from the chef - really very good.
In short, I don't recommend the hotel at all. The chef can very well work in a place where the customer service is as good as its cuisine.

First of all: I would recommend the hotel, but the major shortcomings should still be remedied! The Maritim is very centrally located in the city center with an attached parking garage - but anyone can use it! I was not convinced by the check-in, the staff were busy with themselves and did not provide any relevant information at check-in. You had to ask for most of it. The room was a pleasant size, although the room was well looked after, it reminded me of hotels from the 80s. There were no power sockets in the room itself, the beds and the towels in the bathroom were not really properly arranged (everything was clean). We had a view of the glass-covered breakfast area and the restaurant, the noise level was OK. The only bright spot during this overnight stay was the employee at the reception - around 10 p.m. in the evening - friendly and competent. The breakfast was chaos to the tenth degree, the staff cleared tables in a completely uncoordinated manner, the buffets were replenished far too slowly - it all seemed more like a cafeteria (although I don't want to insult the cafeteria) than breakfast in a Maritim hotel. There were enough staff running around, it was clearly a coordination problem.

We know other Maritim hotels and would never have thought that there could be such differences. The price/performance ratio was not justified in any way here.

As we booked as a group (but still paid for ourselves) we were unable to collect Maritim points - what a pity!

The hotel is showing its age and the whole thing looks a little worn. We attended the carnival meeting of the Fidelen Fordler, which, as always, had a brilliant program and was perfectly organized. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said of the location. For years, my husband has been inviting a large group of business friends, and we are always served by the same waiter, who is fantastic, attentive, friendly and has a great sense of humor! The head waiter, on the other hand, is notable for his caustic behavior and insolence. When I wanted to go back into the room where the snack was being eaten after the break (for years, by the way, the same boring, canned goulash with spaetzle and bean salad that tastes of preservatives), he forbade me - in broken German - to go into the room. I explained to him that my husband was there, but he grabbed my arm and stammered "private party" and forbade ME to touch him. The security man at the door just rolled his eyes and said that it was well known that the guy was stupid. As every year, it was an adventure to get a bill for the drinks outside the hall; it took ages to get extremely poorly tapped beer, although the bar staff tried really hard. Conclusion: The staff are mostly friendly and try hard, the security team gives the impression that they were hired at a martial arts studio for minimum wage.... We won't spend any more money there outside of the meeting....

This hotel is full of delights & surprises throughout, numerous restaurants, shops & cafes to enjoy. The atrium area is very spacious, extremely bright & inviting. It is a very clean & well kept hotel with a nod to trying to be as green as possible with its initiatives. The rooms themselves are spacious & excellent with a lovely bathroom too. The breakfast is expansive with enough variety to suit every taste. The staff are excellent & always seemed upbeat & helpful throughout.
The location of this hotel is perfect for the old town, 15 mins walk from the mainline station (& Koln cathedral). The Rhine is viewable from the hotel too as well as easy access to cross the bridge. Numerous resuarants at located in the vicinity of the hotel with easy access.
I have to say we've been lucky to travel to many places this hotel is up there with the very best, you'd be making a mistake if you didn't choose to stay here.
