Let's start with the good. Location is excellent, breakfast is superb (well, that's usually the case in Germany), the public areas are pleasant (except for reception), and staff try their best - but may be overwhelmed, as the restaurant seems very popular with German tourists. I wouldn't know, except for breakfast I didn't eat there. Beds are very comfortable. And I appreciated being able to leave luggage after check-out, although it's not really in a safe area or monitored in any way, so my laptop and other "valuables" had to be dragged around the entire day. Negatives: The rooms. Maybe I have high expectations for character that seldom seem to be fulfilled in German hotels that are within old buildings, but... well, the rooms are unpleasant. Carpeting for one - I find this so unhygienic, but this seems to be the norm in Germany, unfortunately. The bathrooms, while functional, are bare and solely utilitarian. The wifi was appallingly poor - it's impossible to work inside the rooms (on the 3rd floor in the old building), only in the corridor outside. For crying out loud, a repeater for the router is less than 70 Euro, I should think a worthwhile investment for the hotel to make. It's probably the case that most Germans have a data plan associated with their mobile phones, but not all guests are Germans! My biggest complaint, though, was that my first assigned room (44) stank of sewage; my colleague, placed next door, is a tall woman who had to duck her head to avoid collision with the ceiling. Luckily (since the town was filled with grey-haired German tourists) there were lower rooms that we were able to move to, but even then mine smelled of mildew (perhaps the carpet issue?) and I had to have the window open to disperse this. As for entertainment - well, the tv is there, but quite useless for non-German speakers as there are zero international channels, and without room wifi, streaming content's not possible. Another wifi inconvenience is the assignment of login/password tickets, which needed to be reissued periodically as they expire - but also do not allow for automatic reconnection. In the end, I'd say that there's no benefit to staying here. It's simply a humdrum, run-of-the-mill box hotel with inferior amenities. Another colleague stayed at the Radisson nearby, and he liked it. Maybe the best thing about the New Orleans is that it's right across from the Bauhaus brewery and distillery - I recommend this for its beer, and its amicable and helpful staff. My WIsmar colleagues, however, said that the food quality and choice has declined in recent years.

The Hotel New Orleans is easily accessible on the periphery of the Altstadt of Wismar. My room was large and clean with an attached modern bathroom. Parking in a large municipal lot is easily accessed (200 meters away) and very reasonably priced. Breakfast was served in the main restaurant. Though there are many restaurants in the area, things were quiet by early evening on a Friday. From the hotel it was a short walk to all of the sights in this old Hanseatic town. All in all, I thought I received good value for my money.

Stayed over a weekend for the Christmas market. Check in procedure was efficient. Reasonably sized room, nothing fancy but wasn't looking for that. Did sleep well, no disturbances. Very good location by the harbour close to the old brewery as well as other restaurants, stores and the market square. Just a few minutes walk will take you to most places of interest for a tourist. Nice breakfast buffet, even including steak tartare (!) which I enjoy at any time of the day. Never tried the hotel restaurant for lunch or dinner but had an excellent drink in the bar (see separate review). This was my second visit to Wismar but my first time at the New Orleans. Would probably stay here again if/when I come back to this charming city.

We were lucky and got the last room available for one night. The hotel has its own parking lot nearby which comes in handy. It is located in the old town just opposite the harbour front, just perfect to stroll around town on foot. The room was clean and tidy. The beds are okay. You get quite a lot of noise from the restaurants and streets, but that comes along with being able to stay at such a good location in the middle of the town. A nice place to stay for a night or two. Friendly and helpful staff. Lovely breakfast buffet.

Great little hotel, in a great location. Very friendly staff too. The only complaint was that the room was not as clean as some of the others we have stayed in, the lamp shades and the heater were quite dusty. Highly recommend this hotel. Good wifi connection throughout the hotel.

Made a business trip to Wismar and got 3 nights. Parking is a little away but on private area nearby. Do not start to search surrounding streets... The hotel is perfectly located to the old city harbour and near the center. The restaurant is at reasonable prices and serves delicious food in an american style. Who wonders as the name is allready giving a hint to that.

Just had the pleasure of staying in the hotel New Orleans in Wismar Germany, Situated in the old harbour area of town it is a wonderful little find. The restaurant is superb, I had oysters and then lobster and thought I was in heaven. Then, just when I thought it couldn't get any better, we had a live jazz band, equally as good. The beaches are not near so we drove 20 mins to Insle Poel to some of the most beautiful isloated beaches you could ask for. Settled in amongst the dunes ( handy as it gets quite windy ) we relaxed and soaked it all in. Be careful, parking is NOT free and soemwhere lurks a local parking attendant who, once you park and go to the beaach, gives you a 15 euro ( 20 dollar ) parking fine, but it was worth it. Will definately go again.
