Comfortable and spacious room (for European standards). Had to pay extra for air conditioning. Elevator was broken but they gave me free drinks to compensate me. Breakfast was very good. Easy walk to all city points of interest. Would recommend to any traveler to stay here. The broken elevator was not their fault and was being fixed.

This is a nice hotel with friendly staff, good breakfast, and basic amenities. Room 202 is a corner double room with a tub and shower. The room has a desk, flat screen TV, two single beds, each with a comforter and large and small pillow, closet with safe, electric hot water kettle with tea and coffee, hair dryer, and towel...

My husband and I visited my home town of Hanau in May and wanted to stay close to downtown and the marktplatz. We also wanted a more upscale hotel than our last visit. The Hotel Zum Riesen was the perfect choice. Very clean and modern hotel and nice size rooms. We even had a balcony overlooking a small interior garden....

I'm still surprised at the genuine feel of hospitality you'll get at non-chain hotels in Germany, and Zum Riesen is no exception. The hotel is in a meticuously clean but rather austere 1950s building (like the rest of Hanau, the old hotel was flattened in the last bit of the war). The room i had was massive, with a nice...

Very honored guest, thank you very much for your nice comments. We are very glad to hear that you had a nice stay in our hotel. The little wodden toys (changing every week) are a special gift for our guests. If you going to stay again in Hanau we will be glad to welcome you our in hotel Zum Riesen.

The hotel Zum riesen was very good experience. Location next the Hanau market square was excellent. Also railway station was near. The superior room was very comfort, only dark side was lack of fridge or minibar. The breakfast was really good with lot of choice of food. It was also nice that cleaner puts a puzzle or chocolate on your...

This is a fairly standard hotel - nothing exceptional. The rooms are quite small but functional, however, they are very clean. The breakfast on a morning is OK - not the best, not the worst (or wurst in Germany). There seems to be lots of wooden puzzles around the lobby and the cleaner puts a puzzle or chocolate on your...

I stayed for two nights on a business trip. The secretary in the office booked it so I don't even know how much it costs.... Regardless of the cost: I stayed in Room 104. There was no shower cabin or bathtub.... Just the floor tiles with a drain!!! And after you showered the whole bathroom was like a swimming pool......

The best value is the Riesen JR, which is a cheap alternative at around € 70,- The Hotel is a disappointment and this is not the right place to be for a good night’s rest. The beds have a non-removable plastic cover and it’s uncomfortable to say the least. The hotel is half hearted refurbished. On a positive note: The...

Dont like the neighborhood to much, many sex-clubs. Ok, to run through the near park and along the river. Lots of funny games to play at the bar, they also leave small puzzles in your room every day.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Our hotel ZUM RIESEN locks back on a history of almost 400 years. For many decades was a iron statue of a giant (riesen is the german word for giant) at the front of the HOTEL ZUM RIESEN. It was completely destroyed on 19th of march 1945. There was nothing left from the nice medieval city after the war. Many guests are surprised by the sober post war architecture of Hanau. Many famous guests visited the HOTEL ZUM RIESEN: Napoleon Bonaperte und Ludwig Emil Grimm, who was the painter and younger brother of Jacob und Wilhelm Grimm, the best known storytellers of folk tales. Since 2014 a bronze statue of Ludwig Emil Grimm is sitting on a bench in front of the hotel. Since 2001 a new statue of the giant (RIESEN) is on the front oft the hotel. ... more   less
