The Green Haven - Vegan Bed & Breakfast offers 3 bedrooms, a 6 sqm trailer and an apartment for up to 11 guests altogether. The Green Haven is located in the district Hamburg Wandsbek between the airport (15 minutes by train) and the city centre (8 minutes by train) of Hamburg. The Green Haven’s furniture is mostly upcycled or reused. Much of the decoration and some furniture are made from things people usually throw away, like a bed or a table made of palets, a curtain made of coffee bags and waste baskets made from used flower buckets. Bed linen and towels are new but GOTS (fair trade) certified and made of organic cotton. All used products like e.g. detergents or wall colour are animal-free. You are invited to relax and get in contact with other guests in the large community room with living room, dining room and kitchen. We offer you vegan breakfast on request, self-catering is also possible (an organic supermarket is close). Please note that we have shared bathrooms.

We stayed at Green Haven for 6 nights in the Oberdeck (studio apartment) in August 2018. It was everything we needed it to be. We are vegan and a great supermarket, REWE, and a great drugstore, DM, are only 3 short blocks away. These had everything we needed, great quality and variety, and both are open late. The S-Bahn and U-Bahn are right across the street from these shops and make it easy to get anywhere in Hamburg. Buses go in every direction. The Oberdeck had a good kitchen stocked with the basics & a large fridge. The bathroom had lots of room to keep your toiletries, hang wet towels, etc. A hairdryer is provided there, so no need to pack one. It was the height of a hot summer, but we slept comfortably by just keeping the back windows open overnight. The neighborhood is safe and there are shops for anything you would need within a few minutes walk. FYI, the Wonder Waffle in the block across the street from REWE does vegan waffles on Monday and Tuesday. Go there and support them! There are many doctors in this same block, too. My husband's crown fell off his tooth and he had it put back on by a dentist within 30 minutes of it falling off. Germans are so nice! The owner of Green Haven, Christiane, was so lovely. I can't say enough about Green Haven. I look forward to returning to Hamburg and staying at Green Haven again.

Room Tip: The Oberdeck was better than a hotel room. It was a studio apartment.

Vegan hotels and B&Bs are hard to come by, so of course we had to book this when we visited Hamburg for three days in June 2016. It was located three S-Bahn stops from the city centre and after getting off at Wandsbeker Chaussee we first walked in the wrong direction, so make sure to download Hamburg on Google maps before going there. Christiane couldn't be there to greet us but she left a key and we met her the day after (she was very friendly and gave us tips on restaurants to visit). Our room as well as the common kitchen/living room were super cozy and calm and it was nice to chat with other vegan guests. The ready-made € 5 breakfast meals in the fridge were tasty and convenient (we really liked the rice pudding with mango sauce). Don't feel intimidated by the shared bathroom - it was impeccably clean and modern and we rarely had to wait for our turn to use it. There was also an additional bathroom with shower and sink. We'll definitely come back to this place the next time we visit Hamburg!
